Improving Nursing Students' COVID-19 Knowledge Using a Serious Game
This study aimed to compare knowledge mastery among nursing students who used this teaching method versus those who received online lectures. A retrospective observational study was conducted using preclass, postclass, and final test scores of 130 students retrieved from the university's database of test scores. Both teaching methods produced significant increases in short-term knowledge of COVID-19. There was no statistical difference between the two methods in pre- and postclass scores; however, the serious game group scored higher than the online lecture group in knowledge retention. In summary, the serious game applica...

The Impact of the COVID-19 Global Pandemic on Undergraduate Nursing Students' Study of Anatomy and Physiology
The COVID-19 global pandemic caused major disruptions to the delivery of human Anatomy and Physiology courses to nursing students worldwide. The aim of the current study is to evaluate nursing students' experiences and perceptions of transitioning from a blended to a purely online study mode for first year Anatomy and Physiology courses during the global pandemic. Qualitative and quantitative methodologies were used with a sample of undergraduate nursing students enrolled at a regional Australian university across its three campuses. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to describe the study population. Content analys...

Mobile Health to Improve Hypertension and Diabetes Health Literacy Among Asian Indian Migrants to Hong Kong
The use of mobile technologies to improve health outcomes or mobile health is rapidly evolving, and culturally relevant resources are needed to address health disparities among vulnerable populations. Noncommunicable disease health disparities among Asian Indian migrants to Hong Kong are prevalent. A mobile health application designed to improve hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus health literacy was tested using a mixed-methods design to determine its impact on improving health literacy among this subpopulation. Quantitative findings indicated the mobile health application was effective in improving health literacy....

Physician-Nurse Communication Surrounding Computerized Physician Order Entry Systems From Social and Technical Perspective: An Ethnographic Study
Although computerized physician order entry systems improve order transmission and patient safety, overdependence on these systems can impede users' communication. This ethnographic study explored physician-nurse communication surrounding computerized physician order entry systems using a sociotechnical framework. Fieldwork conducted in a tertiary teaching hospital comprised 89 hours of participant observation, and individual semistructured interviews were held with seven nurses and five physicians. In addition, documents and artifacts were collected. Three core themes emerged. First, computerized physician order entry qua...

Prediction of Bedridden Duration of Hospitalized Patients by Machine Learning Based on EMRs at Admission
Being bedridden is a frequent comorbid condition that leads to a series of complications in clinical practice. The present study aimed to predict bedridden duration of hospitalized patients based on EMR at admission by machine learning. The medical data of 4345 hospitalized patients who were bedridden for at least 24 hours after admission were retrospectively collected. After preprocessing of the data, features for modeling were selected by support vector machine recursive feature elimination. Thereafter, logistic regression, support vector machine, and extreme gradient boosting algorithms were adopted to predict the bedri...

Patients' Technology Readiness and eHealth Literacy: Implications for Adoption and Deployment of eHealth in the COVID-19 Era and Beyond
This study aims to examine patients' eHL in relation to their “technology readiness”—an innate attitude that is underexplored in clinical research. A total of 276 adult inpatients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and coronary heart disease were surveyed cross-sectionally in 2019 using self-reported questionnaires: eHealth Literacy Scale and Technology Readiness Index (2.0). The study found moderate eHL (mean, 27.38) and moderate technology readiness (mean, 3.03) among patients. The hierarchical regression model shows that lower eHL scores were associated with patients of minor ethnicity (Malaysian Chinese), with...

Barriers to Adoption of Electronic Health Record Systems from the Perspective of Nurses: A Cross-sectional Study
This study report aimed to investigate the barriers to implementation of electronic health record systems from the perspective of nurses. The research data comprised responses from nurses working in a university hospital. Our data collection instruments were the Participant Information Form and EHR Nurse Opinion Questionnaire, which were developed by the researchers. Data analysis was presented as summary statistics, including mean values of variables, standard deviation, frequency, and percentages. A total of 160 nurses participated in the study. The mean age of participants was 30.94 ± 0.59 years, and 77.5% were univers...

The Effect of Nursing Students' Smartphone Addiction and Phubbing Behaviors on Communication Skill
This study was conducted with 587 undergraduate nursing students. Sociodemographic data were evaluated using percentages and means. The relationship between smartphone addiction and communication skills and the relationship between phubbing behaviors and communication skills were evaluated with Pearson's correlation analysis. The effect of nursing students' smartphone addiction and phubbing behaviors on their communication skills was evaluated using multiple regression analysis. The mean age of the nursing students in the study was 20.47 ± 1.91 years, and 69.3% (n = 407) of the students were female. When the relationship ...

Filipino Nurses' Feedback on Using a Web-Based Medication Management System: A Pilot Study in a Telehealth Hospital
A common medication safety strategy involves a Web-based medication management system. Still, there is no consensus about its acceptance and usability, even more so among nurses in the Philippines. Thus, this pilot study used a mixed-methods design to explore the nurses' feedback (N = 26) about Web-based medication management system in a telehealth hospital. Their acceptance, perceived usability, and experience of Web-based medication management system were assessed using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model, Post Study System Usability Questionnaire, and semistructured interview guide, respectively...
