Research Topics and Trends in Interprofessional Education in Nursing: A Text Network Analysis
This study aimed to objectively ascertain trends in the field through text network analysis of different types of interprofessional education literature. Titles and thesis abstracts were examined for terms “interprofessional education” and “nursing” and were found in 3926 articles from 1970 to August 2018. Python and Gephi software were used to analyze the data and visualize the networks. Keyword ranking was based on the frequency, degree centrality, and betweenness centrality. The terms “interprofessional,” “education,” “student,” “nursing,” and “health” were ranked the highest. According to to...

Usability Evaluation of a Smartphone Medication Reminder Application in Patients Treated With Short-term Antibiotic
Medication adherence is poor in persons with chronic disease, especially in those with multiple chronic diseases, one of which is a psychological disorder. Social support, medication education, and external reminders have been identified as facilitators of adherence. Mobile health applications have the potential to enhance adherence; however, it is unknown if publicly available applications are user-friendly and useful. We aimed to examine the usability and feasibility of the “MediSafe” medication reminder application in adults with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome undergoing short-term antibiotic therapy ...

Communicating Spiritual Care in the Electronic Health Record
This article describes how chaplain documentation was designed and refined using psychometric methods. The resulting system successfully supported chaplain workflow, provided an ability to aggregate chaplain workload, and integrated the chaplain into the interprofessional team by structuring, linking, and sharing both the chaplain and nursing assessment of spiritual distress in the electronic health record. Documentation used 5-point Likert scales to measure different dimensions of patient spirituality. Reliability and validity were further evaluated as part of a workshop at an Association of Professional Chaplains annual ...

Effects of Government-Driven Smartphone Text Messages on Public Compliance With COVID-19 Preventative Measures
This study aimed to examine how effective the government-driven smartphone text messages were for public compliance with the measures. A total of 489 participants completed an online questionnaire or a pencil-and-paper questionnaire between September and October 2020. A self-reported questionnaire was used to measure the degree of compliance with the measures, the perceptions of the role of smartphone text messages in compliance with the measures, and the overall feelings toward smartphone text messages. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and two-way analysis of variance. The written responses were grouped...

Development of a Computer Application Used by Visiting Nurses, Physicians, and Patients/Caregivers to Prevent Indwelling Urinary Catheter Occlusion in the Community
This study aimed to develop a computer application (software) for use by visiting nurses, physicians, and patients/caregivers, to support their care of long-term indwelling urinary catheters in the community. Development of this application involved: (1) confirmation of the intended purpose, users, and application construction; (2) establishment of the functional requirements for data sharing and communication among visiting nurses, physicians, and patients/caregivers; (3) design of three constituent “versions” of the application to be used by visiting nurses, physicians, and patients/caregivers, respectively; and (4) ...

Using Eye Tracking for Measuring Cognitive Workload During Clinical Simulations: Literature Review and Synthesis
High-fidelity clinical simulations can be used by clinicians to acquire technical (physical ability and knowledge) and non-technical (cognitive and social processes) skills. Excessive cognitive workload contributes to medical errors because of the impact on both technical and non-technical skills. Many studies measure cognitive workload with psychometric instruments that limit the assessment of cognitive workload to a single time period and may involve response bias. Using eye tracking to measure task-evoked pupillary responses allows the measurement of changes in pupil diameter related to the cognitive workload associated...

Evaluating the Correlation Between Nursing Practice and Electronic Nursing Records Using Importance-Performance Analysis
This study aimed to analyze the importance and performance of nursing task items in the standard guidelines for comprehensive nursing services and confirm whether they are reflected in the nursing records. A total of 120 nurses from three hospitals were surveyed for the importance-performance analysis of standard nursing services and their correlation with nursing records. The average scores for importance, performance, and correlation to nursing records were 3.65, 3.31, and 3.08, respectively, demonstrating a significant positive correlation. Regarding the correlation between nursing tasks and nursing records, spiritual a...
