Shared decision making by United Kingdom osteopathic students: an observational study using the OPTION-12 instrument
ConclusionsUndergraduate osteopaths did not appear to engage in competent SDM behaviours, implying traditional and paternalistic styles of decision making that align with results from other manual therapy professions. Students in this study did not practise competent SDM behaviours. Effective educational strategies are required to ensure SDM behaviours reach competent levels. The efficacy of muscle energy techniques in symptomatic and asymptomatic subjects: a systematic review
ConclusionsMET are an effective treatment for reducing chronic and acute pain of the lower back. MET are also effective in treating chronic neck pain and chronic lateral epicondylitis. MET can be applied to increase range of motion of a joint when a functional limitation is present. Other techniques seem to be more appropriate compared to MET for trigger points. Effectiveness of chiropractic manipulation versus sham manipulation on recurrent headaches in children aged 7 –14 years, Protocol for a randomized clinical trial
DiscussionA major strength of this study is its pragmatic nature, where the active treatment group receives chiropractic manipulation according to their individual needs, while both groups continue their use of medication for headache according to their pre-trial habits. Other strengths include an elaborate sham procedure and the weekly outcome reports, reducing recall bias.If it is possible to develop effective treatment for headache in children, a life course of recurring problems may be altered with potential positive implications for both individuals and society.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov, identifierNCT026849...

Muscle energy technique for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a systematic review
ConclusionsThe use of MET for COPD is an emerging field of research, with few studies evaluating its efficacy and safety. Currently, there is insufficient evidence to support the use of MET in the management of COPD. Rigorously designed studies with larger sample sizes are needed to better understand the role of MET for COPD. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

Psychosocial and behavioural characteristics in women with pregnancy-related lumbopelvic pain 12  years postpartum
ConclusionsThe present study demonstrates that it is possible to classify women with persistent pregnancy-related lumbopelvic pain 12  years postpartum into relevant clinical subgroups based on psychosocial and behavioural characteristics using the MPI-S questionnaire. Concurrent validity of lower extremity kinematics and jump characteristics captured in pre-school children by a markerless 3D motion capture system
ConclusionsThe measurements by the markerless motion capture system “The Captury” cannot be considered interchangeable with the Vicon measures, but our results suggest that this system can produce estimates of jump length, jump height, KHR, AHR, knee flexion, FPKA, and FPKD, with acceptable levels of agreement and reliability. These variables are promising for u se in future research but require further investigation of their clinimetric properties. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

Prevalence and factors associated with the use of primary headache diagnostic criteria by chiropractors
ConclusionFour out of five chiropractors managing headache are engaged in the use of primary headache diagnostic criteria. This practice is likely to influence practitioner clinical decision-making around headache patient management including their co-management with other health care providers. These findings call for a closer assessment of headache characteristics of chiropractic patient populations and for further enquiry to explore the role of chiropractors within interdisciplinary primary headache management. The chiropractic workforce: a global review
ConclusionWe have provided information about the global chiropractic workforce. The profession is represented in 90 countries, but the distribution of chiropractors and chiropractic educational institutions, and governing legislations and regulations largely favour high-income countries. There is a large under-representation in low- and middle-income countries in terms of provision of services, education and legislative and regulatory frameworks, and the available data from these countries are limited. Guideline implementation in the Canadian chiropractic setting: a pilot cluster randomized controlled trial and parallel study
ConclusionRecruitment of clinicians and patients for a trial of a complex intervention can be challenging, and retention of participants after enrolment may be low. Future trials of this nature likely require multiple recruitment strategies to achieve desired sample sizes. Moreover, time-constraint issues are perceived particularly by clinicians as a major barrier to both study enrolment before, and protocol adherence during, their actual participation in a trial.Trial registrationThe study was registered at,NCT02483091, on 17th June 2015. Chiropractic services in the active duty military setting: a scoping review
ConclusionsOur scoping review found the majority of published articles described chiropractic services in the active duty military in the US setting. Recent RCTs suggest a benefit of including chiropractic care to usual medical care in managing back pain in active duty military. Yet despite reported benefits in Australia, Canada, and the US, there is a need for further qualitative, descriptive, and clinical trial data worldwide to inform the role of chiropractic services in active duty military. If I was more informed about what exactly they do : perceptions of Botswana district hospital healthcare providers about World Spine Care
ConclusionsMDH healthcare providers had adequate general knowledge about World Spine Care and spinal-related disorders, but did not understand the WSC scope of practice nor referral pathways to and from providers. Participants advocated for greater collaboration between WSC and hospital staff to increase acceptance and integration to deliver spine care services and foster wider adoption of the WSC model, particularly if WSC expands services across Botswana. Future efforts that incorporate interviews with patients and government officials also can provide valuable perspectives to achieve sustainable, integrated, evidence-ba...

Effect of active TENS versus de-tuned TENS on walking capacity in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionsActive TENS applied while walking is no better than de-tuned TENS for improving walking ability in patients with degenerative LSS and therefore should not be a recommended treatment in clinical practice.RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov ID:NCT02592642.
