Patient safety in chiropractic teaching programs: a mixed methods study
ConclusionAs the first report of patient safety attitudes from stakeholders in chiropractic teaching clinics, specific areas of improvement were identified. Chiropractic teaching programs might consider incorporating these and related patient safety concepts into their formal curricula. Mixed methods approach offers teaching clinics opportunities to assess stakeholders ’ insights and enhance safe delivery of chiropractic care. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

Taping for conditions of the musculoskeletal system: an evidence map review
ConclusionsThere is mixed quality evidence of effectiveness for the different types of taping methods for different body regions and conditions. All of the SRs and RCTs found during our search of the taping literature have been organized into a series of appendices. A synthesis of the results have been placed in evidence tables that may serve as a useful guide to clinicians and researchers. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

Beliefs, perceptions and practices of chiropractors and patients about mitigation strategies for benign adverse events after spinal manipulation therapy
ConclusionsThis is the first study comparing beliefs, perceptions and practices from clinicians and patients regarding benign AEs post-SMT and strategies to mitigate them. This study provides an important step towards identifying the best strategies to improve patient safety and improve quality of care. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

The prevalence of psychosocial related terminology in chiropractic program courses, chiropractic accreditation standards, and chiropractic examining board testing content in the United States
ConclusionsDespite evidence suggesting the influential role of psychosocial factors in determinants of health and healthcare delivery, these factors are poorly reflected in United States DCP curricula. This underappreciation is further evidenced by the lack of representation of psychosocial terminology in NBCE parts III and IV test plans. The reasons for this are theoretical; lack of clarity or enforcement of CCE meta-competencies may contribute. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

The bench-top accuracy of the VerteTrack spinal stiffness assessment device
ConclusionsVerteTrack demonstrated high accuracy (high precision, low bias) under bench-top conditions. The difference in stiffness found between multiple versus single spinal levels should be considered in the research context, but is unlikely to be clinically relevant. The results of this study demonstrate that VerteTrack may be suitable for both single and multi-level spinal stiffness measurements in-vivo. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

Predictors of low back disability in chiropractic and physical therapy settings
ConclusionPatients with chronic LBP presenting to primary care with lower work ability and recent consultation with a medical specialist for LBP are more likely to have a worse prognosis; these are indicators to clinicians that standard conservative care may not adequately manage the patients ’ needs. Immediate effects of cervicothoracic junction mobilization versus thoracic manipulation on the range of motion and pain in mechanical neck pain with cervicothoracic junction dysfunction: a pilot randomized controlled trial
ConclusionThis preliminary study identified that CT junction mobilization is not superior to thoracic manipulation on the outcomes of cervical ROM and neck pain when level-specific CT junction mobilization was compared with remote mid-thoracic manipulation in individuals with mechanical neck pain and CT junction dysfunction.Trial registrationCTRI: 2018/04/013088, Registered 6 April 2018,http://ctri.nic.in/Clinicaltrials/pmaindet2.php?trialid=24418 (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

Musculoskeletal pain distribution in 1,000 Danish schoolchildren aged 8 –16 years
ConclusionDanish schoolchildren often experienced pain at more than one pain site during a schoolyear, and a significantly larger proportion of girls than boys reported pain in all three regions. This could indicate that, at least in some instances, the musculoskeletal system should be regarded as one entity, both for clinical and research purposes. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

The accreditation role of Councils on Chiropractic Education as part of the profession's journey from craft to allied health profession: a commentary
ConclusionIf chiropractic care is to gain mainstream acceptance worldwide then it needs to adopt, through revitalised CCE accreditation standards and processes, those of other allied healthcare professions and wholeheartedly embrace science, evidence-based practice and patient centred care. Exploring supervised machine learning approaches to predicting Veterans Health Administration chiropractic service utilization
ConclusionsUsing supervised machine learning to predict chiropractic service utilization remains challenging, with only a small shift in predictive probability over na ïve classification and limited clinical utility. Future work should examine mechanisms to improve model performance. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

Australian chiropractors ’ perception of the clinical relevance of anatomical sciences and adequacy of teaching in chiropractic curricula
ConclusionsThe majority of respondents perceived anatomy as highly relevant to their clinical practice and noted that it was adequately taught within a wide range of educational approaches. These results will assist educators to refine content and delivery of anatomy course offerings to maximize relevance in chiropractic clinical practice. (Source: Chiropractic and Manual Therapies)

The clinical utility of routine spinal radiographs by chiropractors: a rapid review of the literature
ConclusionWe found no evidence that the use of routine or repeat radiographs to assess the function or structure of the spine, in the absence of red flags, improves clinical outcomes and benefits patients. Given the inherent risks of ionizing radiation, we recommend that chiropractors do not use radiographs for the routine and repeat evaluation of the structure and function of the spine. Guidance concerning chiropractic practice in response to COVID-19 in the U.S.: a summary of state regulators ’ web-based information
ConclusionState guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic was heterogenous, widely variability in accessibility, and often no guidance was provided by state chiropractic licensing boards. Some state chiropractic licensing boards chose to assemble guidance for licensees into a single location, which we identified as a best practice for future situations where changes in chiropractic practice must be quickly communicated. Predictors of instantaneous relief from spinal manipulation for non-specific low back pain: a delphi study
Discussion/conclusionFive categories; patient factors, practitioner factors, signs and symptoms of NSLBP presentation, an instrument of measurement (FABQ), and the presence of cavitation following SMT best describe the overall characteristics of the factors. The 18 factors identified in this study can potentially be used to create an instrument of measurement for further study to predict those patients with NSLBP who will receive instantaneous relief post-SMT.
