Joint Developmental Trajectories of Conduct Problems and Hyperactivity/Inattention: Antecedent Risk Markers for Group Membership
This study investigated joint trajectories of conduct problems and hyperactivity/inattention from age three to nine in a cohort of 7,507 children in Ireland (50.3% males; 84.9% Irish). The parent-reported Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire was used to collect information on conduct problems (CP) and hyperactivity/inattention (HI). Information regarding risk markers was collected when participants were nine-months-old via parent report and standardised assessments. Using a person-centred approach (i.e., group-based multi trajectory modelling), six trajectories were identified: no CP/low HI, low-stable CP/HI, low-decli...

Validity and Reliability of the Metacognitions Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30) among Chinese Adolescents
This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Metacognitions Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30) in a sample of Chinese adolescents (1382 boys, 1445 girls) aged 11 to 18 years. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to assess factor structure, as well as, measurement invariance across demographic groups and clinical symptoms. The results of confirmatory factor analyses supported the original five-factor model. Configural, metric and scalar invariance of the five-factor model were also supported by gender, age, ethnicity, residence, parental education level, depression and anxiety status. Furthermore, all five su...

Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome But Not ADHD Symptoms Increases Risk for Child Body Mass Index: Examination in a Sample of Clinically Referred Youth
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2023 Oct 18. doi: 10.1007/s10578-023-01612-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the substantial increase in pediatric obesity rates in recent decades, its long-term stability, and its pervasive negative outcomes, continuous efforts to identify factors that may place children at increased risk for overweight or obesity (OW/OB) are essential. As such, the primary aim of the present investigation was to examine the extent to which symptoms of Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS; i.e., Sluggish Cognitive Tempo) relates to child body mass index (BMI) independent of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity D...

Gender and Age Differences in ADHD Symptoms and Co-occurring Depression and Anxiety Symptoms Among Children and Adolescents in the BELLA Study
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2023 Oct 18. doi: 10.1007/s10578-023-01622-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAttention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. Current studies addressing gender and age differences in ADHD are lacking. The present study aims to fill this research gap by dimensionally evaluating gender and age differences in ADHD symptoms, as measured by a DSM-5-based parent rating scale, in children and adolescents who participated in the two-year follow-up of the community-based BELLA study (n = 1326). Associations between ADHD symptoms and depr...

Weight Suppression and Risk for Childhood Psychiatric Disorders
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2023 Oct 18. doi: 10.1007/s10578-023-01617-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWeight suppression, defined as the discrepancy between an individual's highest historical weight and their current weight, has been implicated in the development and maintenance of eating disorders. Although weight suppression has also been found to impact mood, anxiety and suicidal behavior in patients with and without disordered eating, it has not been examined as a transdiagnostic risk factor for general psychopathology. The current study examined growth records of 281 children and adolescents (ages 7 to 17) newly diagn...
