Parental Psychological Control, the Parent-Adolescent Relationship, and Non-suicidal Self-Injury Among Chinese Adolescents: The Moderating Effect of the Oxytocin Receptor Gene rs53576 Polymorphism
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2023 Dec 18. doi: 10.1007/s10578-023-01646-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParental psychological control (PPC) is associated with adolescent non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI); however, its underlying mechanisms have not been extensively investigated. Considering that genetic and environmental factors interactively influence adolescent development, this study examined whether the parent-adolescent relationship mediated the link between PPC and adolescent NSSI, and whether this mediating process was moderated by the oxytocin receptor gene rs53576 polymorphism (OXTR rs53576). Participants comprised 6...

Peer Victimization Trajectory and Psychosocial Maladjustment in Early Taiwanese Adolescents: A Longitudinal Study
This study examined the peer victimization trajectory and maladjustment outcomes among early Taiwanese adolescents. Data were extracted from a large-scale longitudinal study with a national representative sample. A total of 1691 school students in 4th, 6th, and 8th grade were analyzed. Using latent profile analysis, students were classified into four trajectories, chronic victims, late onset victims, desisters, and non-victims, based on their self-reported physical and verbal victimization at three time points. Maladjustment, including psychological distress, reduced school attachment, internet addiction, and suicidal idea...

Patterns of Adverse Childhood Experiences and Psychiatric Disorders Among Adolescents with ADHD: A Latent Class Analysis
This study aimed to address this gap by identifying classes of ACEs and examining their association with behavioral problems, anxiety, and depression in adolescents with ADHD aged 11-17 (n = 1,806), using data from the 2018 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH). A latent class analysis revealed a four-class solution: (1) low-risk ACEs (61.6%), (2) moderate-risk ACEs (25.2%), (3) high discrimination and neighborhood violence exposure (7.6%), and (4) high-risk ACEs (5.6%). The "high-risk ACEs" and the "high discrimination and neighborhood violence exposure" class showed a higher likelihood of behavioral problems and de...

Executive Functions, Psychiatric Symptoms and ADHD in Child Psychiatric Patients-Concurrent and Longitudinal Associations from Preschool to School Age
Child Psychiatry Hum Dev. 2023 Dec 12. doi: 10.1007/s10578-023-01635-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe investigated in a child psychiatric sample whether preschool age executive functions (EFs) associate with concurrent and school age psychiatric symptoms and ADHD diagnosis. At baseline the children (n = 172) were 4-7 years old, at follow-up (n = 65) 8-13 years. EFs were measured at baseline with Attention and Executive Function Rating Inventory-Preschool Version, psychiatric symptoms were measured at both timepoints by Child Behavior Checklist. Information on diagnoses was collected from medical records. Deficits in EFs...

Preliminary Effectiveness of a Brief School-Based HERO Intervention: Improving the Wellbeing of Final Year Adolescent Female Students
This study examines the preliminary effectiveness of a brief, uncontrolled school-based intervention aimed at enhancing Psychological Capital (PsyCap), consisting of positive resources of hope, self-efficacy, resilience and optimism (HERO), and reducing mental health symptoms among female year 12 students (n = 95, Mage = 16.78, SD = 0.45). Outcomes on measures of HERO and secondary outcomes of flourishing, appearance dissatisfaction, anxiety and depression were measured at pre and post-intervention. In the overall cohort, no significant changes were found on the HERO outcomes or flourishing post-intervention, while symptom...
