Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d3cc06242b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe have developed an upconversion luminescent ratiometric nanoprobe, specifically designed for detection of biothiols with high sensitivity (∼25 nM) at the single-particle level. Using a single-particle localization and rendering method, this nanoprobe enables super-resolution imaging sensing of biothiols within a confined 22 nm space in living cells.PMID:38563651 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc06242b (Source: Chemical Communications)

A novel B,O,N-doped mesogen with narrowband MR-TADF emission
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00537f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTModification of an unsymmetric B,O,N-doped aromatic core with peripheral mesogenic units triggers self-assembly into a columnar hexagonal mesophase, which is stable between 22 and 144 °C. The columnar assembly is preserved in a glassy state below 22 °C. The B,O,N-doped mesogen displays narrowband sky-blue multiresonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) under diluted conditions and bright excimer emission in condensed phase. Our combined experimental and theoretical approach provides insight into the development of str...

Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00885e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMagnetostrictive CoFe2O4 (CFO) nanoparticles were encapsulated within a UiO-66 metal-organic-framework layer to form a CFO@UiO-66 nanohybrid. The deforming of CFO, in response to a high-frequency AC magnetic field, initiates the piezocatalytic property of UiO-66 to generate ˙OH radicals, which can kill cancer cells buried in thick tissues, showcasing bright potential for deep-seated tumor treatment.PMID:38563776 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00885e (Source: Chemical Communications)

Towards tailoring hydrophobic interaction with uranyl(VI) oxygen for C-H activation
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc01030b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBovine serum albumin (BSA) has a uranyl(VI) binding hotspot where uranium is tightly bound by three carboxylates. Uranyl oxygen is "soaked" into the hydrophobic core of BSA. Isopropyl hydrogen of Val is trapped near UO22+ and upon photoexcitation, C-H bond cleavage is initiated. A unique hydrophobic contact with "yl"-oxygen, as observed here, can be used to induce C-H activation.PMID:38563824 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc01030b (Source: Chemical Communications)

Crystalline hydrogen-bonded organic framework for air-tolerant triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00742e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) consisting of a 9,10-diphenylanthracene carboxylic derivative, DPACOOH, was developed for solid state triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion (TTA-UC). The HOF sample shows a 70% increase in upconversion quantum yield and a lower threshold value of 126.0 mW cm-2 compared to those of the disordered powder sample, due to a 43% longer triplet diffusion length in HOF than that in the powder sample.PMID:38563956 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00742e (Source: Chemical Communications)

A porous organic polymer for symmetric sodium dual-ion batteries through an adsorption-intercalation-insertion mechanism
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00642a. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA porous organic polymer (POP) has been developed for dual-ion storage in all organic symmetric rechargeable batteries. The triphenylamine-pyrene-based POP could host sodium and hexafluorophosphate ions acting as the anode and the cathode, respectively, through the adsorption-intercalation and insertion mechanism. The current study highlights the concept of widening the potential window of a dual ion battery by judicious selection of the constituent moieties.PMID:38563975 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00642a (Source: Chemical Communications)

Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc01041h. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe found that the N6 methyl group of N6-methyladenine is able to hinder the methylation of N6-methyladenine at the N1 position by DMS. Based on this, we have devised a novel method for detecting N6-methyladenine, which was successfully applied to identify specific m6A loci in 28S rRNA.PMID:38564258 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc01041h (Source: Chemical Communications)

Photochemical cyclopropanation in aqueous micellar media - experimental and theoretical studies
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00828f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhile in nature, reactions occur in water-based confined compartments, for a long time, water has been often regarded as an unsuitable medium for organic reactions. We have, however, found that photochemical cyclopropanation of styrenes with diazo compounds or their precursors can be performed in micellar systems. COSMO-RS studies revealed that the reactivity correlates with the predicted critical micelle concentration (CMC), with higher CMC values delivering higher yields.PMID:38564316 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00828f (Source: Chemical Communications)

BODIPY phototether enables oligonucleotide cyclization and subsequent deprotection by tissue-transparent red light
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00272e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTmeso-methyl-BODIPY photocages release a leaving group upon visible light irradiation but often lack thermal stability. In turn, our thermally-stable, red-shifted BODIPY phototether allows oligonucleotide cyclization, preventing complementary strand hybridization. Hybridization resumes upon red-NIR irradiation, disconnecting the phototether by oxidative cleavage, which is easily monitored by a blue shift in fluorescence.PMID:38563214 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00272e (Source: Chemical Communications)

Production of hydrogen from alcohols < em > via < /em > homogeneous catalytic transformations mediated by molecular transition-metal complexes
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 2. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00594e. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHydrogen obtained from renewable sources such as water and alcohols is regarded as an efficient clean-burning alternative to non-renewable fuels. The use of the so-called bio-H2 regardless of its colour will be a significant step towards achieving global net-zero carbon goals. Challenges still persist however with conventional H2 storage, which include low-storage density and high cost of transportation apart from safety concerns. Global efforts have thus focussed on liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs), which have shown excellent po...
