Boron nanosheets as a phosphatase mimicking nanozyme with ultrahigh catalytic activity for prodrug-based cancer therapy
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d3cc05616c. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBoron nanosheets (BNSs) are reported as a new phosphatase mimicking nanozyme. Surprisingly, the catalytic rate of BNSs is up to 17 times those of known phosphatase mimicking nanozymes. By adding polyols and Lewis bases, the catalytic activity of BNSs was attributed to the Lewis acidity of the B centers of the BNSs. Theoretical investigation shows that the B centers are responsible for the catalytic hydrolysis of phosphoesters. Moreover, the biomimetic activity of the BNSs was further explored for enhancing anticancer therapy through nano...

Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d3cc05935a. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe unique high surface area and tunable cavity size endow metal-organic cages (MOCs) with superior performance and broad application in gas adsorption and separation. Over the past three decades, for instance, numerous MOCs have been widely explored in adsorbing diverse types of gas including energy gases, greenhouse gases, toxic gases, noble gases, etc. To gain a better understanding of the structure-performance relationships, great endeavors have been devoted to ligand design, metal node regulation, active metal site construction, cav...

Guanosine-based hydrogel as a supramolecular scaffold for template-assisted macrocyclization
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00129j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe G-quartet-like supramolecular assembly present in guanosine hydrogel templates macrocyclization between bis-azide and bis-alkyne fragments. The resulting macrocycle enhances viscoelastic properties, and strengthens the hydrogel network. This approach holds potential for the in situ synthesis of drugs and their simultaneous delivery in a stimuli-responsive manner.PMID:38444274 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00129j (Source: Chemical Communications)

A solvent-controlled photoresponsive ionic hydrogen-bonded organic framework for encryption applications
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00701h. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTwo novel ionic hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (iHOF-17 and iHOF-18) were obtained by integrating organosulfonic acids with amidine salts. Among them, iHOF-18 exhibits fast, reversible, and high-contrast UV-induced photochromic properties, and this property is solvent-controlled. This work provides valuable insights for designing advanced anti-counterfeiting techniques and encryption applications.PMID:38444288 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00701h (Source: Chemical Communications)

AI in computational chemistry through the lens of a decade-long journey
This article gives a perspective on the progress of AI tools in computational chemistry through the lens of the author's decade-long contributions put in the wider context of the trends in this rapidly expanding field. This progress over the last decade is tremendous: while a decade ago we had a glimpse of what was to come through many proof-of-concept studies, now we witness the emergence of many AI-based computational chemistry tools that are mature enough to make faster and more accurate simulations increasingly routine. Such simulations in turn allow us to validate and even revise experimental results, deepen our under...

Fluorescent metal nanoclusters: prospects for photoinduced electron transfer and energy harvesting
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00021h. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTResearch on noble metal nanoclusters (MNCs) (elements with filled electron d-bands) is progressing forward because of the extensive and extraordinary chemical, optical, and physical properties of these materials. Because of the ultrasmall size of the MNCs (typically within 1-3 nm), they can be applied in areas of nearly all possible scientific domains. The greatest advantage of MNCs is the tunability that can be imposed, not only on their structures, but also on their chemical, physical, and biological properties. Nowadays, MNCs are very...

Redox-neutral zinc-catalyzed cascade [1,4]-H shift/annulation of diaziridines with donor-acceptor aziridines
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00226a. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe coupling of diaziridines with donor-acceptor aziridines (DAAs) has been achieved using Zn-catalysis to furnish imidazopyrazole-4,4-dicarboxylates via [1,4]-hydride shift. The use of Zn-catalysis, [1,4]-hydride shift, natural product modification and a late-stage molecular docking study are important practical features.PMID:38445334 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00226a (Source: Chemical Communications)

Pd NP-loaded covalent organic framework for pH-switched Pickering emulsion catalytic dechlorination
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d3cc05982k. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTQuinoline carboxylic acid-linked and Pd nanoparticle (NP)-loaded COF nanospheres were constructed via a three-component one-pot Doebner reaction and post-synthetic metalation. The obtained Pd@DhaTAPB-COOH solid stabilizer can greatly promote the pH-switched recyclable Pickering interfacial dechlorination reaction, which sheds light on the bright future of smart Pickering emulsion catalysis.PMID:38445390 | DOI:10.1039/d3cc05982k (Source: Chemical Communications)

Fenton-mediated thermocatalytic conversion of CO < sub > 2 < /sub > to acetic acid by industrial waste-derived magnetite nanoparticles
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00082j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIron oxide dust, discarded as industrial waste, has been used here to fabricate magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4-NPs). We have proposed the thermo-catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) using Fe3O4-NPs in the presence of H2O2 to get acetic acid (AcOH) at near ambient conditions (100 °C, 10 bar) with a maximum yield of ∼0.4 M in a batch-reactor. The importance of H2O2 can be described as it facilitates the production of higher concentrations of OH˙ and H+/˙, which consequently supports the synthesis of AcOH.PMID:38445535...

Key role of subsurface doping in optimizing active sites of IrO < sub > 2 < /sub > for the oxygen evolution reaction
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Mar 6. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00075g. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe oxygen evolution reaction (OER) over a family of metal-doped rutile IrO2 catalysts is theoretically investigated by controlling the species and position of doped elements. The subsurface substitution doping is demonstrated to efficiently regulate the eg-filling of surface iridium sites and lower the adsorption strength of oxygen intermediates, improving the catalytic activity for the OER. Finally, based on screening, subsurface Cu- and Li-doped IrO2 models stand near the top of the volcano plot and display high levels of structural s...
