Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00928b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA calix[3]carbazole-based cavitand was conveniently synthesized. It was found that the cavitand with adjustable conformation could show excellent complexation with fullerenes C60 and C70 in both solution and the solid state. Moreover, the crystal structures of the host-guest complexes show that the cavitand can stack into channel-like architectures, in which fullerenes are orderly arranged inside.PMID:38629394 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00928b (Source: Chemical Communications)

Low-valent-tungsten catalysis enables hydroboration of esters and nitriles
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00041b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the research presented herein, low-valent-tungsten-catalyzed hydroboration of esters and nitriles was investigated. Aromatic and aliphatic substrates were smoothly reduced to corresponding alcohol derivatives and N,N-diborylamines in the presence of W(CO)4(NCMe)2. Valuable derivatives were conveniently accessed by introducing a further functionalization process to crude hydroboration mixtures in one pot.PMID:38629636 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc00041b (Source: Chemical Communications)

Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1039/d4cc01281j. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHerein, we describe an effective strategy for synthesizing polythioethers with a well-defined structure through the cationic polymerization of thiirane with electron-withdrawing substituents. This strategy allows for precisely controlling the regio- and stereochemistry of the ring-opening polymerization of 2-phenylthiirane, thus allowing for producing poly(2-phenylthiirane) with high stereoregularity using enantiomeric pure thiirane.PMID:38630292 | DOI:10.1039/d4cc01281j (Source: Chemical Communications)

Halloysite-derived mesoporous silica with high ionic conductivity improves Li-S battery performance
Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1039/d4cc01111b. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe slow Li+ transport rate in the thick sulfur cathode of the Li-S battery affects its capacity and cycling performance. Herein, Fe-doped highly ordered mesoporous silica material (Fe-HSBA-15) as a sulfur carrier of the Li-S battery shows high ion conductivity (1.10 mS cm-1) and Li+ transference number (0.77). The Fe-HSBA-15/S cell has an initial capacity of up to 1216.7 mA h g-1 at 0.2C and good stability. Impressively, at a high sulfur load of 4.34 mg cm-2, the Fe-HSBA-15/S cell still maintains an area specific capacity of 4.47 mA h ...

Chem Commun (Camb). 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1039/d4cc00085d. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTo avoid the unexpected aggregation and reduce the cytotoxicity of nanomaterials as optical probes in cell imaging applications, we propose a programmed DNA-cube as a carrier for silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to construct a specific hydrogen sulfide (H2S) responsive platform (Ag NP@DNA-cube) for diagnosing colorectal cancer (CRC) in this study. The DNA-cube maintains good dispersion of Ag NPs while providing excellent biocompatibility. Based on the characteristic overexpression of endogenous H2S in CRC cells, the Ag NPs are etched by H2...

Plastron effect enhanced electrochemical CO < sub > 2 < /sub > reduction activity over hydrophobic three-dimensional nanoporous silver
In this study, we employed an electrochemical reduction approach to fabricate a hydrophobic three-dimensional nanoporous silver catalyst with a plastron effect, aiming to enhance the CO2 diffusion. The resulting catalyst exhibited an exceptional performance with the FECO peaking at 95% at -0.65 V (vs. RHE) and demonstrated remarkable stability during continuous electrolysis for 48 hours. Control experiments, together with Tafel analysis, EIS measurements, and contact angle results, confirmed that the notable enhancement of performance was attributed to the hydrophobic porous structure that facilitated efficient storage and...
