Pseudomembranous Conjunctivitis following Exposure to Arisaema ringens Sap: A Case Report
Plants of theAraceae family exude a sap containing calcium oxalate, a toxic substance that causes dermatitis. However, ocular injury due to exposure toAraceae sap has rarely been reported. Herein, we present a case of severe pseudomembranous conjunctivitis following exposure toArisaema ringens, anAraceae species and popular houseplant in Japan. A 67-year-old man presented with pain in his right eye after exposure to the sap ofA. ringens. At presentation, the best corrected visual acuity and intraocular pressure in the right eye were 20/800 and 15 mm Hg. Slit-lamp examination showed strong hyperemia, conjunctival chemosis, ...

Atypical Cogan ’s Syndrome with Choroidal Effusion: A Case Report
This report describes a rare case of uncontrolled intraocular pressure and choroidal effusion in a patient with atypical Cogan’s syndrome. A 51-year-old woman was referred t o our clinic on account of bilateral distortion of visual acuity and ocular pain following admission to the internal medicine department for bilateral hearing loss, acute renal failure, and fever. Upon ocular examination, we observed bilateral 2–3+ cells in the anterior chamber and closed-angle gl aucoma, and choroidal effusion in the right eye. The intraocular pressure could not be controlled with topical and systemic medications, and a bilateral ...

Netarsudil-Induced Corneal Flattening in a Child with Secondary Open-Angle Glaucoma
We report a case of a child with secondary open-angle glaucoma who developed 6.5 diopters (D) of corneal flattening upon the addition of Rhopressa (0.02% netarsudil dimesylate solution) eye drops to a preexisting treatment regimen of timolol and latanoprost. This change in corneal power reversed after netarsudil, a rho-kinase inhibitor, was discontinued and replaced with Vyzulta (0.024% latanoprostene bunod ophthalmic solution). The 4-year-old female patient presented with bilateral secondary open-angle glaucoma from Paired Box 6 (PAX6)-related aniridia, aphakia, and persistent fetal vasculature. She was started on netarsu...

Retinal Capillary Hemangioma Leading to a Diagnosis of von Hippel-Lindau Disease in a Patient with Retinopathy of Prematurity
Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is a rare inherited cancer syndrome that results in the development of tumor formation in multiple systems. In the eye, retinal capillary hemangioma (RCH) can lead to severe vision loss. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is likewise a rare disease in which abnormal retinal vasculature develops in premature infants. Hallmarks of this disease include temporal dragging of the macula and retinal vessels. Here, we describe a 36-year-old myopic woman with a known history of ROP who presented with a vitreous hemorrhage in the right eye. As the vitreous hemorrhage cleared, she was found to have not o...

Endophthalmitis Associated with a Retained Cilium in the Clear Corneal Wound after Cataract Surgery
In conclusion, a retained cilium in a clear corneal wound related to cataract surgery, though rare, may result in endophthalmitis. The surgical field should be cleared of cilia on the ocular surface prior to surgery. Proper draping and use of povid one-iodine antisepsis are essential in reducing the risk of endophthalmitis.Case Rep Ophthalmol 2022;13:318 –322 (Source: Case Reports in Ophthalmology)

Discordant Keratoconus in Monozygotic Twins
We report a case of discordant keratoconus (KC) in a set of monozygotic twins with contrasting environmental risk factors. Twin one had bilateral, asymmetrical KC. He reported significant eye rubbing using his knuckles during his night-shift work as an emergency doctor. His usual sleeping position on the left side corresponded to the most affected eye. Twin two had normal corneas, with no evidence of KC. He reported mild infrequent eye rubbing, daytime work pattern, and a supine sleeping position. This case report highlights the influence of environmental and behavioural factors in the development of KC, in particular eye ...

Subtle Combined Hamartoma of the Retina and Retinal Pigment Epithelium Causing Recurrent Exodeviation
A 3-year-old girl presented with recurrent exotropia following primary strabismus surgery. Careful fundus examination of the left eye revealed loss of the foveal reflex and presence of a subtle grayish mass with overlying white fluff. Optical coherence tomography through the lesion revealed disorganization of inner and outer retinal layers with accompanying epiretinal gliosis. Together, these findings were suggestive of combined hamartoma of the retina and retinal pigment epithelium (CHRRPE). No syndromic association was found. CHRRPE is a rare retinal tumor that usually presents with visual loss, strabismus, or follows an...

A COVID-19-Related Retinopathy Case Report
We report the case of a patient diagnosed with COVID-19 who presented with a progressive increase of bilateral cotton wool spots over a 1-week period, despite quick and complete recovery of systemic signs of the disease and no ocular symptoms. We followed the evolution of such lesions over a 3-month period. Here, we underline the importance of retinal screening even if no ocular symptom is reported. Furthermore, we demonstrate the essential role of fundus examination as a reflection of systemic vascular changes.Case Rep Ophthalmol 2022;13:297 –304 (Source: Case Reports in Ophthalmology)

Coexistence of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension with Unilateral Duane Retraction Syndrome Type 1 in an Adult Female
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a poorly understood condition, and its presentation can coexist with other diseases. Simultaneous IIH and Duane retraction syndrome (DRS) type 1 have never been reported to coexist in an adult patient. Herein, we report a 32-year-old obese female with a history of chronic renal failure who had a renal transplant rejection 6 years prior to presentation and was treated with oral steroids and immunosuppressive medications. She began to experience signs and symptoms of increased intracranial pressure (morning headache and binocular horizontal diplopia) and had limited abduction of ...

Voluntary Flutter Presenting During Ophthalmoscopy: A Case Report
This report presents an unusual case of voluntary flutter that presented i n a 20-year-old male with autism spectrum disorder during ocular examination via direct ophthalmoscopy. Refraction and ocular motor balance were normal, and visual acuity was good in each eye (−0.10 logMAR). During direct ophthalmoscopy, a fine intermittent tremor was initiated. The patient was re ferred for further assessment, and eye movements were recorded at 1,000 Hz with an EyeLink 1000 eye tracker. Upon request, the patient could manifest voluntary flutter again and sustain the eye movements with effort during convergence. The voluntary flut...

Third Cranial Nerve Palsy after Monoclonal Antibody Therapy for Lung Cancer: A Case Report
We report a case of a woman, which after neurosurgical treatment for cerebellar metastasis presented painless third cranial nerve palsy. The benefits of ICIs have been ascertained, but side effects also take place. Neurological symptoms should be recognized early to avoid substantial morbidity, and if necessary, the oncologic treatment should be changed.Case Rep Ophthalmol 2022;13:282 –285 (Source: Case Reports in Ophthalmology)

Longitudinal Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Findings in Malignant Hypertension Choroidopathy: A Case Report
This report presented the longitudinal optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) findings in a patient with malignant hypertension choroidopathy. An 87-year-old woman presented with acute unilateral central vision loss in the setting of hypertensive emergency. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography showed massive serous macular detachment. OCTA revealed extensive flow loss in the neuroretina and choriocapillaris. With blood pressure (BP) normalization and without any ocular intervention, visual acuity recovered on subsequent visits. Flow loss in the neuroretinal capillaries persisted, but significant improvemen...
