Epibulbar osseous choristoma: A clinical case and review of the literature.
We present the case of a 3-year-old male child with an epibulbar bone choristoma. The patient presented with a hard consistency subconjunctival mass of 8×10mm in the superior-temporal quadrant of his right eye along with vascularisation and a long cilium of approximately 8 to 10mm that touched the corneal surface. The histopathology study showed the presence of trabeculae of mature, compact bone surrounded by fibrous tissue, as well as Havers channels with concentric rings of laminar bone without bone marrow, and with normal osteocytes which defined the diagnosis of epibulbar bone choristoma. Osseous choristoma is th...

Diagnosis by multimodal imaging in peripapillary pachychoroid syndrome: A case report.
Authors: Alonso-Martín B, de-Lucas-Viejo B, Gimeno-Carrero M, Ferro-Osuna M, Sambricio J Abstract The case is reported of a 73-year-old male presenting with the recently described peripapillary pachychoroid syndrome. This syndrome is included in the pachychoroid diseases, which is a relatively new condition characterised by increased choroidal thickness with attenuation of the choriocapillary layer located above dilated choroidal vessels. It is associated with progressive malfunction of the retinal pigment epithelium and neovascularisation. The case is presented with a multimodal image, in which some tests s...

Authors: Fuentes Páez G, Soler Tomas JR, Burillo S Abstract A report is presented on the visual and clinical results from a retrospective case series of patients with chronic, evaporative, dry eye syndrome (DES), after refractive surgery, and treated with intense pulsed light treatment (IPL). Four sessions were performed, and the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) questionnaire was completed before initiating treatment and after the last session. Pre- and post-treatment data included: visual acuity (VA), refraction, clinical evaluation (DEWS severity grading, and Oxford corneal staining), and Orbscan topogr...

Retinal vein occlusion in solid organ transplant recipients. Study of 4 cases and literature review.
Authors: Cerveró A, González Bores P, Casado A, Ruiz Sancho MD, Hernández Hernández JL, Napal Lecumberri JJ Abstract Although retinal venous obstruction (RVO) has been primarily related to vascular risk factors and glaucoma, there are a few studies of RVO in patients with solid organ transplants. An analysis was performed on total of 331 patients who presented with RVO (branch RVO in 226 cases and central RVO in 105 cases) over a 10 year period, and the characteristics were compared with the 4 patients with a history of solid organ transplant (liver, renal, or bipulmonary) who presented ...

Radius-Maumenee syndrome: Beyond a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.
Authors: Perucho Martínez S, Martín Giral E, Fernández Escamez CS, Toledano Fernández N Abstract Radius-Maumenee syndrome (SRM) or idiopathic episcleral venous hypertension (HVEI) is an uncommon disorder that occurs with a dilation of the episcleral vessels and an increase in intraocular pressure (IOP). It is a syndrome that constitutes a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the ophthalmologist. A case is presented in which, despite making an early diagnosis and trying to plan a treatment aimed at avoiding choroidal effusion, its appearance was unavoidable, having to treat it twice w...

Use of semisynthetic dura mater substitute as a patch graft for prosthesis extrusion in anophthalmic socket.
We present a case report of a three-year old patient diagnosed with retinoblastoma in her left eye. The course of the disease made enucleation of the latter eye and a prosthesis implant necessary. Two years after surgery, partial prosthesis extrusion occurred and a semisynthetic dura mater substitute was used as a patch graft to cover the defect. Dopamine D2 receptor influences eye development and function in Zebrafish.
Authors: Syambani Ulhaq Z Abstract Dopamine is synthesized by tyrosine hydroxylase and is considered as a major catecholamine in the vertebrate retina, including zebrafish. However, little is known about the role of dopamine D2 receptor (DRD2) in retinal physiology. Therefore, to elucidate the role of DRD2 in the eye development and function in zebrafish, fish were exposed to fluphenazine, quinpirole, or combination of both. Subsequently, the eye size, optic nerve diameter (ONd), and visual background adaptation were evaluated. The results showed that fluphenazine (fluphenazine, DRD2 antagonist) decreased eye size ...
