Coexistent central retinal vein and artery occlusion in a patient with psoriasis receiving ustekinumab.
Authors: Rahhal-Ortuño M, Fernández-Santodomingo AS, Díaz-Llopis M, García-Gil R, Roca-Ginés J Abstract A 44 year-old Caucasian male with a history of plaque psoriasis currently being treated with ustekinumab presented with sudden loss of vision in his left eye. Fisher one-and-a-half syndrome due to a bulb protuberance cavernoma.
Authors: Andermatten JA, Elua Pinin A, Samprón Lebed N, Bollar Zabala A, Arrazola Schlamilch M, Urculo Bareño E Abstract The one and a half Fisher syndrome is produced by an unilateral lesion in the dorsal and inferior part of the pons located specifically in the pontine tegmentum. This is an area that contains the medial longitudinal fasciculus (LMF), the paramedian pontine reticular formation (PPRF) and the nucleus of the sixth cranial nerve, responsible for the horizontal movements of the gaze. Clinically it manifests with conjugate gaze palsy with internuclear ophthalmoplegia. The case is reported...

Acute annular outer retinopathy associated with human immunodeficiency virus.
Authors: García-Torre M, Castro-Flórez R Abstract A case of acute annular outer retinopathy (AAOR) is presented in a patient that was later proved to be positive for the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The aetiology of AAOR remains unknown, although a viral infection or an autoimmune mechanism has been suggested. The case presented here is noteworthy because it is the first case described in a patient with HIV positive serology. Even so, the precise role played by HIV infection or secondary immunosuppression in the development of the AAOR is not known. PMID: 30455116 [PubMed - as supplied by p...

Multidisciplinary eyelid reconstruction in Barber-Say syndrome: A case report.
Authors: Barreiro-González A, Barranco-González H, Aviñó-Martínez J, López Blanco E, Gutiérrez Ontalvilla P, Évole-Buselli M Abstract Barber-Say syndrome is an unusual dysplasia caused by the mutation of the TWIST2 gene (2q37.3), which encodes a protein that acts at an epigenetic level. The case is presented of a 2-day-old male child in whom ectropion, hypertelorism, hypertrichosis and other dysmorphic features led to the clinical diagnosis of Barber-Say syndrome, which was later confirmed with genetic tests. Around 20 cases have been reported on this syndrome...

Schwannoma of the eyelid. A case report.
Authors: Abusleme EI, Nazar CA, Zoroquiain P Abstract The case is presented of a 57 year-old man with a one-year history of enlargement of the left upper eyelid. An excisional biopsy was performed, and the histological and immunohistochemical study confirmed the diagnosis of schwannoma. Schwannomas are benign peripheral nerve sheath tumours, derived from a Schwann cells proliferation. Eyelid involvement is extremely uncommon. To make the diagnosis, a detailed histopathological and immunohistochemical study is essential. This case suggests that schwannomas should be included within the differential diagnosis of any ...

Review of the main colour vision clinical assessment tests.
CONCLUSIONS: The Anomaloscope is the "gold standard" in terms of colour vision testing, despite its incompatibility with daily clinical practice. It is fairly complex to use, difficult to understand for children, and its practice requires having the time available. Nevertheless, it is possible to reach an accurate approximation through the combination of some of the tests listed in this article. The above mentioned tests are a good alternative to determine the presence of dyschromatopsia in settings closer to daily clinical practice or in less controlled settings than a clinical study. The major drawback among th...

Choroidal neovascularisation associated with optic nerve head drusen: Case report and review of literature.
Authors: Castro-Rebollo M, González Martin-Moro J, Lozano Escobar I Abstract A 21-year-old man was seen for follow-up of optic nerve head drusen (ONHD) in the ophthalmology department. Funduscopy revealed the presence of choroidal neovascularisation (CNV) in the papillomacular bundle of his right eye (RE). The patient was successfully treated with two intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF). Peri-papillary choroidal neovascularisation in papillomacular bundle is a rare complication in patients with ONHD. These forms of CNV show a good response to anti-VEGF treatment. ...

CONCLUSION: Fourth generation quinolones, imipenem and vancomycin continue to have a low in vitro resistance to bacteria that cause eye infections. However, there was a tendency to an increase in the resistance of gram-negative bacteria. Solar maculopathy has been the only form of photic maculopathy for millennia, often secondary to the observation of an eclipse. During the last century, technological advances have led to the appearance of new forms of photic maculopathy, related to the exposure to new forms of artificial light, such as welding devices and lasers. In recent years, the general use of laser pointers has led to an upturn in interest in this pat...
