Suprachoroidal hemorrhage due to Valsalva maneuver, importance of enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography in differential diagnosis.
We describe a case report of a spontaneous suprachoroidal hemorrhage, in which the enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (OCT-EDI) is extremely useful in establish the differential diagnosis with a choroidal tumor. A 70 year-old woman was referred with a central scotoma after a Valsalva maneuver. In the posterior pole we observed a grey bilobed subretinal mass with the appearance of a choroidal tumor. OCT-EDI revealed an optically dark region with a scalloped anterior tumor contour and subretinal fluid, the choroicapillaris appeared to be intact and displaced anteriorly. The diagnosis was a suprachoroidal hem...

Multidisciplinary approach to orbital embryonic rhabdomyosarcoma: about a case.
Authors: Dávila-Camargo A, Samaniego-Novelo FF, Vidal-Muñoz M, Jiménez-López JM, López-Facio E Abstract Of the head and neck tumoral lesions in children and adolescents, 5 to 10% are primary malignant tumors. Among these tumors, orbital rhabdomyosarcoma stands out, which is the most common primary soft tissue sarcoma in children. Its diagnosis requires a high degree of clinical suspicion, and it can be corroborated with a series of examinations, in order to stage it and carry out the appropriate treatment. Currently, surgery and chemotherapy are the primary treatments, and the use...

Use in clinical practice of an automated screening method of diabetic retinopathy that can be derived using a diagnostic artificial intelligence system.
CONCLUSIONS: Compared to the manual classification, the autonomous diagnostic AI system registered a high sensitivity (100%) and specificity (82%) in the diagnosis of RDR and macular edema in people with diabetes. Due to its immediate diagnosis, the autonomous diagnostic AI system can increase the accessibility of RDR screening in primary care settings. Photosensitive ganglion cells: A diminutive, yet essential population.
Authors: Vidal-Villegas B, Gallego-Ortega A, Miralles de Imperial-Ollero JA, Martínez de la Casa JM, García Feijoo J, Vidal-Sanz M Abstract Our visual system has evolved to provide us with an image of the scene that surrounds us, informing us of its texture, colour, movement, and depth with an enormous spatial and temporal resolution, and for this purpose, the image formation (IF) dedicates the vast majority of our retinal ganglion cell (RGC) population and much of our cerebral cortex. On the other hand, a minuscule proportion of RGCs, in addition to receiving information from classic cone and rod pho...

The use of optical coherence tomography in the evaluation of patients with bipolar disorder.
Authors: Gavín A, Garcia-Martin E, Garcia-Campayo J, Viladés E, Orduna E, Satué M Abstract Bipolar disorder (BD) is a mental disorder characterised by episodes of extremal mood changes. In recent years, some researchers found neurodegeneration in patients with BD using Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Evaluation of the optic nerve and the retinal layers using optical coherence tomography (OCT) has proved to be a useful, non-invasive tool for diagnosis and monitoring of neurodegenerative diseases. Accordingly, a decrease in the retinal nerve fibre layer and the ganglion cell complex measured by OCT w...

Update on the management of chronic central serous chorioretinopathy.
Authors: Moreno-Morillo FJ, Fernández-Vigo JI, Güemes-Villahoz N, Burgos-Blasco B, López-Guajardo L, Donate-López J Abstract Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) is one of the main causes of impaired visual acuity in patients younger than 60 years. Its pathophysiology remains partially unknown, although it has been postulated that choroidal hyper-permeability may be involved. This typically produces a neurosensory retinal detachment and/or a detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium in the posterior pole. Although acute CSC generally does not require treatment, when chronic it must be...

AIBSE belongs to the acute zonal occult outer retinopathy (AZOOR) complex. Conditions of this AZOOR complex may overlap. Typically, in AIBSE, a peripapillary hyperautofluorescence is seen in the autofluorescence.
