Unilateral exophthalmos secondary to esophageal adenocarcinoma metastasis to the medial rectus muscle.
Authors: Fernández Berdasco K, Fernández Díaz L, Jiménez-Fonseca P, Calvo Blanco J, Burgueño Montanés C Abstract A case is presented on a 51 year-old man with stage IV oesophageal adenocarcinoma. The patient was referred by the Oncology Department urgently for a same-day assessment by an ophthalmologist due to two weeks of severe unilateral exophthalmos and binocular diplopia. A comprehensive eye exam revealed the presence of an axial non-reductive exophthalmos and a limitation in left eye levoduction. A computed tomography scan was performed that showed a multiple lobed, i...

Orbital supratrochlear fistula secondary to anaesthetic block in cataract surgery.
Authors: Díez-Montero C, Fernández-Pérez GC, Galindo-Ferreiro A Abstract A case is described of a woman with history of right peribulbar nerve block prior to cataract surgery that, within a few days, presented with a trochlear intraorbital arteriovenous fistula. This was resolved without sequelae after three months by performing intermittent homolateral carotid massages. This is the first case of supratrochlear intraorbital arteriovenous fistula. There are only 8 cases reported of traumatic intraorbital arteriovenous fistula, and only one was with post-peribulbar anaesthesia. PMID: 31378390...

Authors: Kudsieh B, Fernández-Vigo JI, Vila-Arteaga J, Urcola JA, Martínez-de-la-Casa JM, García-Feijóo J, Ruiz-Moreno JM, Fernández-Vigo JÁ Abstract The iridocorneal angle, due to its implications in the physiopathology of aqueous humour drainage, is a fundamental structure of the anterior chamber. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography is a rapid and non-invasive technique that obtains images in vivo. The high resolution allows it to analyse the normal anatomy of the angle, any alterations, and the changes that occur after different therapeutic interventions. Anter...

Nishida procedure associated with botulinum toxin in a long-standing complete bilateral sixth cranial nerve palsy.
Authors: Mata Moret L, Freiria Barreiro R, Cervera Taulet E, Monferrer Adsuara C, Ortiz Salvador M, Palomares Fort P Abstract In severe cases of abducens or sixth cranial nerve palsy, transpositions of the superior rectus and inferior rectus into the paralytic lateral rectus have been demonstrated to be useful. Numerous techniques have been described over time to carry out these transpositions, such as the Hummelsheim, O'Connor, Jensen, Foster, or Nishida technique. The first 4 techniques mentioned above have an increased risk of anterior segment ischaemia. The case is presented of a long-standing bilateral sixth c...

Consensus of the Iberoamerican Oculoplastic Society for diagnosis and management of facial dystonia.
CONCLUSIONS: Facial dystonia diagnosis is clinical; therefore, image studies are rarely needed. The ophthalmologist is generally the first physician to be consulted, and is able to be the treating physician, with the exception of specific cases of hemifacial spasm where management with neurosurgery may be beneficial. Botulinum toxin is the treatment of choice. Treatment with oral neuroleptics and myectomy of the orbicularis oculi muscle are reserved for refractory cases, since these do not have an adequate clinical response as first choice treatments. Persistent use of botulinum toxin does not modify the natural course of ...
