A review on the use of porcine in tendon research
In conclusion, pigs have been widely used as a good animal model of tendon research. However, the limitations of porcine tendon research (the lack of anatomical research and in vivo studies) should be given more attention in future studies.PMID:37806500 | DOI:10.1016/j.aanat.2023.152166 (Source: Annals of Anatomy)

Peroneus tertius revisited: the morphological variability of the bifurcated peroneus tertius insertion - an anatomical study
CONCLUSION: Our findings give a detailed overview of the morphological features the PTT can have, when attached with two tendons to the FMTB. Especially the varying relationship between those two insertions and varying point of the anterior insertion are of interest, as they might support its complex role in the occurrence of fractures of the fifth metatarsal by providing different amounts of torsional stress and its tendons can be used as tendon-grafts.PMID:37804928 | DOI:10.1016/j.aanat.2023.152164 (Source: Annals of Anatomy)

Evaluation of Nerve Innervation Distribution of Orbicularis Oculi Muscle for Botulinum Neurotoxin Application Using Sihler's Method
CONCLUSION: This study unveiled the nerve branches associated with the orbicularis oculi muscle. It pinpointed precise crossing points of these nerve branches, which can be targeted for applying BoNT in treating blepharospasm. Consequently, by utilizing minimal BoNT, it is anticipated that the quantity of toxin administered will decrease, leading to more efficient outcomes and reduced expenses. Furthermore, this approach can aid in averting potential undesired complications during BoNT administration.PMID:37804929 | DOI:10.1016/j.aanat.2023.152165 (Source: Annals of Anatomy)

Introducing the Foveola lunata, an anatomical landmark of the wrist
Ann Anat. 2023 Sep 29:152163. doi: 10.1016/j.aanat.2023.152163. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe lunate foveola is often the starting point of a cystic swelling called a "ganglion". To make the anatomy of this region more relevant to the needs of clinicians and more accessible to students, we propose to introduce the term lunate foveola (Foveola lunata) on the dorsal side of the wrist just distal to the os lunatum. The easily located foveola will help in the examination of the wrist to more easily understand the anatomy of the wrist and facilitate the examination of patients with wrist injuries when an injury to the lunat...

Characterization of rat vertebrae cortical bone microstructures using confocal Raman microscopy combined to tomography and electron microscopy
CONCLUSIONS: Micro-CT and confocal Raman microscopy are good tools to complete classical analysis using optical and electron microscopy. The results and measurements presented in a rat model known for its small inter-individual differences provide the main characteristics of a mature bone. This study will allow the community working on this rat vertebrate model to have a set of characteristics, in particular on the structure of the haversian canals.PMID:37774934 | DOI:10.1016/j.aanat.2023.152162 (Source: Annals of Anatomy)
