Cannabis Motives and Quitting Tobacco: Smoking Expectancies and Severity Among Treatment-seeking Cigarette Smokers
Conclusions: Cannabis motives subscales were not uniformly predictive of quit success. Individuals who used cannabis for conformity reasons were more likely to successfully quit smoking; however, individuals who used cannabis for coping reasons were less likely to quit smoking. Thus, those who use cannabis for conformity reasons are less likely to turn to cannabis during times of stress or to relieve tension or anxiety, a view supported by existing literature. This suggests that individuals who use cannabis for coping reasons may represent a population vulnerable to cannabis misuse and problems. Additional work is needed t...

Patient-Physician Symmetry in Addiction Psychiatry: Clinical Methods for Aligning Relationships
Conclusions: The physician first identifies and, if needed, corrects misalignment in the patient-physician relationship. Once alignment is established, the physician can then work toward 2 salient tasks at each clinical encounter: first, resolution of the current clinical challenges; and second, utilizing the current clinical event to address a phase-related aspect of recovery. Although eventual recovery rests primarily with the patient, the physician’s assistance with phase-specific recovery tasks maximizes the patient’s chances for ultimate recovery.
