The Elderly and the Opioid Epidemic: A Case Study
Opioid addiction is a problem within the United States that is impacting all age groups. The elderly are a population that is seldom discussed as being affected by opioids. Physiologically, the older adult is more susceptible for complications associated with an alteration in pharmacokinetics and late diagnosis of diseases such as viral hepatitis C. Health promotion for this population is imperative in the prevention and treatment of opioid addiction problems. (Source: Addictive Disorders and Their Treatment)

Effects of Recent Alcohol Consumption Level on Neurocognitive Performance in HIV+ Individuals
Conclusions: Although cognitive weaknesses were detectable among these non–treatment-seeking HIV+ drinkers, the level of alcohol consumption was not a primary determinant of neurocognitive performance in this group. A comprehensive profile analysis may be most valuable for detecting cognitive strengths and weaknesses given the heterogeneity of this population. Longitudinal studies are needed to examine the potential additive or synergistic effects of heavy drinking and HIV seropositivity on cognitive performance. Patient Satisfaction With Videoconferencing-based Treatment for Alcohol Use Disorders
Conclusions: Overall, the patients were satisfied with the treatment. We saw a nonsignificant tendency that the TAU+I group were more satisfied with the treatment in general, compared with the TAU group. It is a possibility that patients in this group felt more satisfied with the treatment as they had the opportunity to choose videoconferencing. Offering videoconferencing-based treatment may be a positive feature in the treatment and lead to improved outcomes of the treatment courses. The technical equipment and routine using it should be improved in future studies or during implementation. (Source: Addictive Disorders and Their Treatment)

A Case of Cocaine-induced Toxic Leukoencephalopathy With Severe Radiologic but Mild Clinical Disease
Conclusions: Cocaine use can manifest as diffuse symmetric white matter changes on magnetic resonance imaging of the brain as well as changes in the basal ganglia and globus pallidus. In the absence of other laboratory and historical abnormalities and in the setting of neurobehavioral disabilities and previous drugs use, it is important to consider cocaine-induced leukoencephalopathy as a differential.
