An Update on Current Clinical Management and Emerging Treatments in Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Skin Therapy Lett. 2024 Mar;29(2):1-6.ABSTRACTHidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a severe, debilitating, chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by recurrent painful nodules, abscesses and draining sinus tracts in intertriginous areas. While this condition appears to stem from follicular unit dysfunction, its cause is multifactorial and the exact pathogenesis has yet to be fully elucidated. These factors make treatment selection challenging and contribute to variable therapeutic response among affected patients. Typical regimens consist of a combination of medical and surgical modalities, tailored to individual respo...

Pediatric Dermatology for People of Color
Pediatr Ann. 2024 Apr;53(4):e146-e151. doi: 10.3928/19382359-20240205-07. Epub 2024 Apr 1.ABSTRACTWhen evaluating pediatric patients of color, it is essential to consider the unique diagnostic and treatment factors that apply to this population. Certain dermatologic conditions are more common in these patients, including postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, pityriasis alba, progressive macular hypomelanosis, tinea capitis, traction alopecia, keloids, hypertrophic scars, pseudofolliculitis barbae, acne keloidalis nuchae, and hidradenitis suppurativa. Furthermore, conditions such as vitiligo are more noticeable in people of c...

Incidence of anxiety disorder among adults with hidradenitis suppurativa
CONCLUSIONS: HS is independently associated with increased risk of anxiety disorders. An increased risk remains, but is attenuated, when controlling for confounders. The relative risk may be particularly high among patients managed by dermatologists.PMID:38564268 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljae139 (Source: The British Journal of Dermatology)

Dermatologists' Perspectives on Biosimilars
Conclusion: Biosimilars are safe and effective for treating approved dermatological conditions and may lower patient costs compared to their reference products. Patients are not always offered biosimilar therapy as an option, which may be due to unfamiliarity among dermatologists.  This survey suggests a need for more research and educational initiatives, such as modules and workshops that focus on biosimilar safety, efficacy, and interchangeability guidelines. J Drugs Dermatol. 2024;23(4):doi:10.36849/JDD.7755.PMID:38564397 | DOI:10.36849/JDD.7755 (Source: Journal of Drugs in Dermatology)
