Optical Real-Time Cardiorenal Toxin Uric Acid Measurement During Hemodialysis Using a Miniaturized Optical Sensor
In this study, the authors tested a miniaturized optical sensor for monitoring uric acid levels and removal for the first time in a more extensive clinical study, including Hemodialysis (HD) and Post-dilutional online hemodiafiltration (HDF) procedures with different settings in Tallinn, Estonia. The results (Mean±SD, Lab vs. Sensor) of the uric acid concentration 57.20±34.05 vs. 57.22±33.09 µmol/L, reduction ratio 68.72±10.91 vs. 67.89±12.48 %, and total removed amount 7.00±2.10 vs. 7.33±2.29 mmol did not differ significantly from the values obtained from the clinical laboratory (p<0.05).Clinical Relevance-Duri...

Brazilian Dialysis Survey 2022
CONCLUSIONS: The absolute number and prevalence rate of patients on chronic dialysis continue to increase. A growing number of patients were receiving hemodiafiltration. The mortality rate decreased, probably due to the end of COVID-19 pandemic. The conclusions were drawn in the context of relatively low voluntary participation, which imposed methodological limitations on our estimates.PMID:38078834 | DOI:10.1590/2175-8239-JBN-2023-0062en (Source: Jornal Brasileiro de Nefrologia)

Hemoadsorption therapy for calcium channel blocker overdose: A case report
Background: Modern resin hemoadsorption/hemoperfusion (HP) for calcium channel blocker (CCB) overdose is yet to be reported. The characteristics of CCBs make them unamenable to removal by haemodiafiltration or charcoal hemoperfusion, however, elimination, using styrene bead adsorption in an ex-vivo model has been demonstrated. Its clinical use is described.Case report: A male in his twenties was admitted with shock into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), following an overdose of amlodipine and risperidone. Removal characteristics of presepsin by operating conditions and hemofilter
AbstractPresepsin, which is used as a biomarker for sepsis, is thought to be removed by dialysis, but the actual removal properties of dialysis are unknown. We investigated the presepsin removal properties of continuous hemodiafiltration using the high concentration of presepsin from human plasma drained by plasma exchange. Each solution in plasma exchange was connected to a continuous hemodiafiltration blood circuit and circulated at 4 conditions. The results show that presepsin was confirmed to be removed more efficiently in hemofiltration than in hemodialysis. In addition, when using a polymethylmethacrylate hemofilter ...
