Investigation of the Association between Bilateral Selective Anterograde Cerebral Perfusion and Postoperative Ischemic Stroke in Obese Patients with Emergency Surgery for Acute Type A Aortic Dissection
Conclusions: A patient-tailored strategy for cerebral perfusion should be considered in obese patients, considering the high atheromatous burden of the supra-aortic vessels in these patients and the potential risk of atheromatous embolization associated with this technique.PMID:38674307 | PMC:PMC11052173 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040661 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Histologically Validated Myocardial Fibrosis in Relation to Left Ventricular Geometry and Its Function in Aortic Stenosis
Conclusions: Histological MF in AS was correlated with LVM and LVEDD in all study periods. No correlations between MF and LV parameters were found in aortic stenosis in the ischemic heart disease group across all study periods.PMID:38674313 | PMC:PMC11052378 | DOI:10.3390/medicina60040667 (Source: Medicina (Kaunas))

Aortic valve replacement for aortic stenosis: Influence of centre volume on TAVR adoption rates and outcomes in France
CONCLUSIONS: In a centralized public healthcare system, the total number of AVRs increased linearly between 2007 and 2019, mostly due to an increase in TAVR, irrespective of centre volume. Progressive declines in patient risk profiles and death rates were observed in all terciles; in 2017-2019 death rates were similar in all terciles, although lower in high-volume centres for SAVR.PMID:38670869 | DOI:10.1016/j.acvd.2024.02.007 (Source: Archives of Cardiovascular Diseases)

Surgical rescue mitral valve procedure post percutaneous transluminal mitral commissurotomy —a single-center observational study
This study evaluates the outcomes of surgical rescue performed within 24  h of undergoing PTMC from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2019. Out of 2259 PTMC patients, 22 patients (<  1%) required rescue mitral valve surgery. Out of 22 patients, 17 patients (77.27%) developed mitral regurgitation; five patients (22.7%) had cardiac tamponade. Mitral valve replacement was performed in 20 patients (90.9%), while two patients (9.1%) underwent mitral valve repair. Cardiac tamponade was secondary to injury of the left atrium (9.1%), left ventricle (4.5%), and right ventricle (9.1%). Concomitant tricuspid valve repair was done i...
