Outcomes of Concomitant Maze Procedure in Tricuspid Repair for Severe Tricuspid Regurgitation
CONCLUSION: The Maze procedure during TV repair in patients with severe TR and persistent AF showed acceptable SR rates and lower MACCE rates compared to those without the procedure, while also promoting LA reverse remodeling.PMID:38651225 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2024.39.e143 (Source: Journal of Korean Medical Science)

Emergency department imaging utilization post-transcatheter aortic valve replacement: single institution 7-year experience
ConclusionOur study highlights the vital role of early and accurate imaging in post-TAVR patients within 30 days post-procedure. As transcatheter approaches rise in popularity, emergency radiologists become instrumental in diagnosing common post-procedural presentations. Continued research is essential to devise post-discharge strategies to curtail readmissions and related costs. Proper imaging ensures prompt, effective care, enhancing overall patient outcomes. Coronary Artery Revascularization in Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
This article aims to show that in patients without high-grade proximal coronary artery disease, revascularization after TAVR is safe, feasible, and practical. Additionally, the use of preoperative TAVR computed tomographic angiography might be used in both intermediate and high-risk patients rather than invasive coronary angiography to assess for significant proximal coronary artery disease to help guide the timing of revascularization. Simultaneous transapical transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement in patients with severe valve dysfunction: initial experience
ConclusionSimultaneous transapical transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement using the self-expandableJ valve appears to be a feasible and effective alternative to redo surgery. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Predictors of late outcomes after concomitant tricuspid valve repair with left-sided valve surgery
ConclusionsConcomitant TV repair with left-sided valve surgery had acceptable outcomes in terms of survival and TR durability. In patients with preoperative TR grade  ≥ 3, preoperative patient status had negative impacts on prognosis. (Source: General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery)

Ascending aortic dilatation in TAVI: Actor or bystander?
Ascending aorta dilatation (AAD) frequently coexist with aortic stenosis (AS), affecting approximately 20% of patients undergoing surgical (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) [1 –3] This association is even stronger in patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), showing AAD in up to 42% [4]. Outcomes in patients with aortic stenosis and severely reduced ejection fraction following surgical aortic valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement
Patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction demonstrate improvement in left ventricular injection fraction (LVEF) after aortic valve replacement (AVR). The timing and magnit... (Source: Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery)

Hemodynamic Comparison of the On-X and Top Hat Mechanical Aortic Valve Prostheses
CONCLUSIONS: There was no difference between the two valves with respect to the AV area index at discharge, and hemodynamic function was stable during longer-term follow-up. The longer aortic cross-clamp time observed in the On-X group may indicate increased complexity in implantation compared to the Top Hat group.PMID:38636685 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2024.04.003 (Source: The Annals of Thoracic Surgery)

A study of ChatGPT in facilitating Heart Team decisions on severe aortic stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: The use of LLMs offers promising opportunities to improve the HT decision-making process. This study showed that ChatGPT's decisions were consistent with those of the HT in a large proportion of cases. This technology could serve as a failsafe, highlighting potential areas of discrepancy when its decisions diverge from those of the HT. Further research is necessary to solidify our understanding of how AI can be integrated to enhance the decision-making processes of HTs.PMID:38629422 | DOI:10.4244/EIJ-D-23-00643 (Source: EuroIntervention)

Fetal aortic valvuloplasty for critical aortic stenosis: single-center retrospective study focusing on postnatal outcome
CONCLUSION: FAV for critical aortic stenosis led to anterograde aortic flow in 89.6% of the fetuses, with BVC being achieved in 48.3% (73.7% of the live born). Among patients with BVC at birth, the rate of reintervention is high but long-term survival is satisfactory. This article is protected by copyright.
