How Bacteria and Cancer Cells Regulate Mutagenesis and their Ability to Evolve
The NIH Director's Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series.Dr. Rosenberg is a molecular biologist and geneticist who studied phage lambda and mechanisms of DNA recombination in E. Coli during her Ph.D. with Frank Stahl (Oregon) and postdoctoral work with Miroslav Radman (Paris). Since 1997, she has been on the faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, and working in E. Coli her lab demonstrated and elaborated molecular mechanisms of mutagenesis activated by stress responses. These elements increase genetic diversity when cells are poorly adapted to their environments. Her lab also studies mechanisms of DNA repair and genome instab...

Genome Maintenance Up Close and Personal: Eavesdropping on Single Molecular Conversations
Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series Single-molecule detection has opened vast avenues to investigate aspects of biological systems that are inaccessible by any other technique. Research in my lab is focused on pushing the limits of single-molecule detection methods to study biological systems with multiple components to better mimic the cellular conditions. In the first part, I will describe the surprising and deep insights, revealed by multi-color FRET and fluorescence-force spectroscopy, on the dynamics of DNA repair proteins on single stranded DNA. In the second part, I will describe a single-molecule pull-down (SiMPull...

The Role of Poly(ADP-ribose) in DNA Damage Response
The DNA Repair Interest Group is concerned with all forms of DNA damage and repair. As a major defense against environmental damage to cells DNA repair is present in all organisms examined including bacteria, yeast, drosophila, fish, amphibians, rodents and humans. The members of the DNA Repair Interest Group perform research in areas including DNA repair enzymology and fine structure, mutagenesis, gene and cell cycle regulation, protein structure, and human disease.
