Analysis of spatial correlation networks of carbon emissions in emerging economies
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Jul 8. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-28384-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStudies have shown that energy consumption from economic development leads to an increase in carbon emissions. Emerging economies, as important sources of carbon emissions with high growth potential, play a crucial role in global decarbonisation efforts. However, the spatial pattern and evolution trend of carbon emissions in emerging economies have not been studied in depth. Therefore, this paper uses the improved gravitational model and carbon emission data from 2000 to 2018 to construct a spatial correlation network of ...

Comparative transcriptome profiling of potato cultivars infected by late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans: Diversity of quantitative and qualitative responses
Genomics. 2023 Jul 3:110678. doi: 10.1016/j.ygeno.2023.110678. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Estonia potato cultivar Ando has shown elevated field resistance to Phytophthora infestans, even after being widely grown for over 40 years. A comprehensive transcriptional analysis was performed using RNA-seq from plant leaf tissues to gain insight into the mechanisms activated for the defense after infection. Pathogen infection in Ando resulted in about 5927 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) compared to 1161 DEGs in the susceptible cultivar Arielle. The expression levels of genes related to plant disease resistance such a...

Geolocation prediction from STR genotyping: a pilot study in five geographically distinct global populations
CONCLUSIONS: Three different prediction models have been proposed for genotype to geolocation prediction, i.e. (i) use of unique genotypes of a population, (ii) use of the most frequent genotype, and (iii) a combinatorial approach of unique and most frequent genotypes. These models could aid the investigating agencies in cases where no reference sample is available for comparison of the profile.PMID:37401375 | DOI:10.1080/03014460.2023.2217382 (Source: Annals of Human Biology)

Changes in dairy cows ’ behaviour, health, and production after transition from tied to loose housing
Transition of dairy cows from a tied to a loose housing system may affect their behaviour, health and production. Such housing system changes have become more frequent in Estonia but knowledge is lacking on ho... (Source: Acta Veterinaria Scandinavica)

Bacterial Resistance in Hospital-Acquired Infections Acquired in the Intensive Care Unit: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: Our systematic review reveals that ESBL- and carbapenemase-producing K. pneumoniae and E. coli are the most problematic bacteria that are reported, mainly in tertiary hospitals in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. We have also found propagation of dominant clones with a high degree of MDR, becoming a problem due to its high capacity to cause morbidity, mortality and additional hospital costs.PMID:37384803 | DOI:10.14712/18059694.2023.8 (Source: Acta Medica: Hradec Kralove)
