New article: Ketogenic diet put schizophrenia into remission in two patients
Chronic Schizophrenia Put Into Remission Without Medication New research suggests ketogenic diet may play a role in treating schizophrenia. www.psychologytoday.com One question I had was about this part: "Interestingly, the effects of this diet on the brain have been studied for decades because neurologists have been trying to figure out how it works in epilepsy. This diet is known to produce ketones which are used as a... New article: Ketogenic diet put schizophrenia into remission in two patients (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PNES/pseudoseizure case formulation
In my last med school rotation before starting residency, I spent a couple of weeks in an outpatient epilepsy clinic, and encountered a fair amount of PNES/pseudoseizures. The neurologists I was working with didn't have much advice for the patients besides "go see psychiatry" or "go get some therapy," but I found myself wondering how I would formulate a case like this if it came in front of me. Obviously one would look to treat any underlying psychiatric disorder (MDD, anxiety, etc), but I... PNES/pseudoseizure case formulation (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is Neurology for me?
I'm a bit undecided as I take a liking to both Neurology and Psychiatry. I found the neuroscience part in preclinical years fascinating and performed my best at those. I learnt the material quickly and did not put much effort in. I think of studying the brain (specifically memory, behaviour) and sleep medicine, pain medicine, psychopharmacology and treating headaches, epilepsy, sleep disorders and think this is for me but then I think of strokes (which I would hate to manage) and then I... Non Traditional Pre Med aiming for MD
Hi there, I am a 20 year old student with autism and epilepsy who wants to be a neurologist. I go to a community college and right now I have a 3.093 gpa and I am trying to raise it. I have 4 C'S in Pre calculus, Japanese, Intro Chem, General Chem 1, and I am struggling to not get a C in General Bio 1, the cell and molecular portion of general bio. I didn't have any intro bio course to help me with this, but I should do better. I have 64 units so far, and I am planning on going to CSUN for a... What type of volunteering?
I am currently a pre-med major with the hope of becoming a pediatric neurologist. I know one of the most important things I need to watch before medical school is the volunteering. I currently have the opportunity to go to a 4 day/ 3 night camp for the National Epilepsy Foundation. This would give me the opportunity to work with children that have epilepsy, but will it actually help me get into medical school since it isn't working in a hospital. So is it medical related or not? Should I do it? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Epilepsy & Panic Attacks in Medical school ?
A few weeks ago one of our classmates confessed that she has regular panic attacks since we started Medical school. When another classmate heard this, she told us that she knows another person who developed Epilepsy since Med school started. We asked her whether she was sure about that and she told us that the doctor arrived to the conclusion that the constant stress + lack of sleep ( especially ) can induce an Epilepsy even in healthy individuals. Do you know other similar stories... Epilepsy & Panic Attacks in Medical school ? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
