Epilepsy in private practice
Background-I’m a EEG/neurophysiology fellowship at a big peds level 4 center, looking to return to California. So I’ve been on the job interview trail and received some decent (for peds neuro, at least) offers from private practice groups to start a pediatric epilepsy practice, with promises of monitored beds, excellent “epilepsy” referral volume etc. How feasible is it to do this outside of academia? For anyone who has a private epilepsy practice, do you end up reading through 24 hr... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Diversity Question Help
I was working on some diversity essays and I wanted to get some feedback if what I was doing was okay. I have a couple of ideas, and I've been working on both of them. 1. I grew up with Epilepsy, and it was part of my personal statement (only at the beginning), but I was going to elaborate on the psychosocial factors (permanent lifestyle restrictions, consistent side-effects of medication, being outcasted from the South Asian community due to stigma) I experienced that play into having a... Startup opportunities in neurology?
Are there neurologists who have gone on to form/become part of good startups? What roles do they play in those startup’s- clinical (ugh) or more basic neuroscience (yay)? Out of the following fields- movement, epilepsy, dementia, stroke/interventional neurology, pain/headache, MS-which of these is very promising from a startup perspective? Post a 2 yr epilepsy fellowship, is general neurology practice (including stroke) viable?
Hello all, I am a PGY-2 neurology resident in the US (a non-US IMG) and intend to do a 2-yr epilepsy fellowship in Canada. However, in my understanding, in Canada, it's tough to come by subspecialist-specific jobs (except stroke), and the demand is for general neurologists. My question is that if I do a 2 yr epilepsy fellowship post-residency, does it diminish my general neurology (including stroke) practice skills? Now I know that a 1-yr- clinical neurophysiology fellowship is the most... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Critical care EEG fellowship?
I recently learned about this fellowship being offered at some places like Yale and Pitt. Could anyone tell me how this works in terms of the job opportunities available post fellowship (academic and private)? Is this usually combined with either a NeuroICU fellowship and/or epilepsy, or is it a standalone fellowship? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do all neurology subspecialties in academia pay equally (adjusted for location, demand, experience level etc.)?
I think neuromuscular, epilepsy, movement are fairly similar in terms of pay. I've heard the salaries are usually in the $210-240k for these subspecialties in a non-coastal, non-ivy league place. What about stroke, neurocritical care, multiple sclerosis (if one does infusions), interventional neuroradiology? Is the compensation in these specialties similar, and if not, could anyone give a ballpark estimate for each of these (relative to the $220k figure I quoted above for the outpatient... Transcript detail question for post-bacc
Hi - I will earn my bachelor's in Psychology soon. There is quite a bit of Bio coursework in there. (I am 12 credits short of a Bio major, but am opting to save the money I would have used on the 9th semester for the double major and use it on a post-bacc instead. There's transcript repair involved here because of excessive W's from now-resolved intractable severe epilepsy and I want the reinvention to be more noticeable.) In order to qualify for financial aid for a post-bacc, I would need... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Overnight monitoring of continuous video EEG
Hello, I am a neurology resident at a very large academic program. I wanted to ask how other similarly large academic programs monitor continuous EEG overnight - especially for patients on non-neurological services. At our institution, we do not have an epilepsy attending, epilepsy fellow, or EEG tech who monitors or reads the continuous EEGs overnight. We do have an on-call epilepsy fellow or attending that is available overnight. However, they will not look at any EEGs overnight... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fellowship to complement epilepsy training
My main interest is inpatient epilepsy and will be doing a 2 year fellowship. However, I am also interested in picking up teleneurology shifts on the side which I’ve heard becomes easier to get with a stroke fellowship, plus epilepsy alone might become a bit boring after a while. On the other hand stroke really gives you no experience with extra billable procedures like EMG, Botox, so I’m a bit hesitant. Not sure how much one gains clinically either after residency. Feel Neuromuscular... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Coping with mental health in school
Hi, I have epilepsy and things haven’t been going well lately. I had just gotten into med school prior to covid, but my episodes picked up to a point where I decided to get surgery. I deferred for a year, got the operation, and I recovered well physically. I got the ok from my doctor, and was so excited that I chose to come to school. Unfortunately, I didn’t do well academically or personally health-wise, and I may need to postpone school again. Mentally, I’m so split b/c I’ve pursued med... Yet a student, however...
With consideration and time well spent into a vast medical window of interest. I am a former U.S Marine and an ex FMF Corpsman with immediate medical combat training. However due to my situation I became epileptic due to TBI; I will never see a scalpel again. Now with a new approach on becoming more popular with the medical field, I'm still not sure where to eagerly pursue my discipline. I have come to two different places to take but not settled into any yet. A DO to get a good grasp on... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Neurology Fellowship
Hello, I’m a PGY3 Neurology resident applying fir fellowship this year. I am thinking between Neuro-Ophthalmology (because is chill and lux and have good life style) epilepsy (because I think it might be good job opportunities) and vascular (field that I’ve done alot of research projects in and initially was my favorite but I’m not a fan if life style and being oncall anymore) I recently heard that neuromuscular has the best job market among all of sub-specialities in neurology. I would... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
