Genetic diagnosis of a rare COL7A1 variant causing dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa pruriginosa through whole ‑exome sequencing
In conclusion, the present study provides evidence for the involvement of the COL7A1 G2287R gene variant in the development of DEB-Pr and highlights the potential utility of cfDNA in genetic disease diagnosis.PMID:37822584 | PMC:PMC10562958 | DOI:10.3892/etm.2023.12201 (Source: Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine)

Challenges in the Transfer and Scale-Up of Mini-Tableting: Case Study with Losartan Potassium
Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2023 Oct 9:S0939-6411(23)00261-8. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2023.10.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMini-tablets (MTs) with losartan potassium were developed to treat the rare disease Epidermolysis Bullosa. The focus was placed on transfer and scale-up of a direct compressible formulation from the compaction simulator STYL'One Evo (CS) to the rotary tablet press Korsch XM 12 (RP). Transfer of tabletability and compactibility profiles from CS to RP did not show good agreement, e.g. at a tableting pressure of 125 MPa mean tensile strengths (TS) of 4 MPa on CS and 1-1.5 MPa on RP were reached. These results...

Involvement of palms and soles in patients with autoimmune bullous diseases: a comparative analysis of a diagnostically relevant localization
We present our own clinical-laboratory experience concerning presentations of skin lesions on palms and soles in the pemphigus diseases group, pemphigoid diseases group, epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA), and lichen planus pemphigoides (LPP) and discuss the pertinent literature.MethodsLesions on palms and soles were assessed retrospectively on the basis of just photographic archives from the beginning of 2014 to March 2023. We comparatively evaluated 462 Slavic patients with AIBD.ResultsPalmoplantar involvement was observed in only 21 patients with AIBD (12 females and 9 males). There was no statistically significant d...

Retrospective analysis of autoimmune bullous diseases in Middle Franconia
This study shows that the incidence of each AIBDs in Middle Franconia is low and comparable (PV, PF, LAD, EBA) or lower (BP, MMP, DH) than in other studies and regions. BP is the most common newly diagnosed AIBD in Middle Franconia.DiscussionDue to the chronic and sometimes severe course of AIBDs, repeated in-house treatments are often necessary. To date, mainly topically and systemically applied corticosteroids in combination with immunomodulators are used as first-line therapy. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)
