USDA Prioritizes Investments to Address Opioid Crisis in Rural America
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it is giving funding priority in two key grant programs to programs that address opioid misuse in rural communities. The Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program will give priority to applications focused on the epidemic in rural areas. USDA Invests in e-Connectivity to Restore Rural Prosperity by Providing Training and Health Care Services
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded 72 grants totaling $23.6 million through the Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant Program to improve connectivity in rural communities. The grants will support projects in 28 states and will be used to provide virtual access to job training, educational and healthcare opportunities, opioid abuse treatment, and mental health counseling. RUS: Distance Learning and Telemedicine Loan and Grant Programs
Final rule from the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) designed to streamline, revise, and update the Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant Program. The DLT Program works to encourage and improve telemedicine and distance learning in rural areas through the use of computer networks and other advanced technologies. Included changes seek to reduce the regulatory burden of applying for the grants and ensure funds are awarded to projects with the most demonstrable need.
