Moving forward after the COVID-19 pandemic: Lessons learned in primary care from the multi-country PRICOV-19 study
CONCLUSION: Policymakers, primary care associations, and the broader healthcare system are urged to collaboratively take responsibility and increase support for GP practices to enhance their resilience, adaptability, and capacity to deliver safe and equitable healthcare during future crises.PMID:38511848 | DOI:10.1080/13814788.2024.2328716 (Source: European Journal of General Practice)

Mental health and help-seeking in Czech sexual minorities: a nationally representative cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: We provide evidence that SM people in Czechia have substantially worse mental health outcomes than their heterosexual counterparts. Systemic changes are imperative to provide not only better and more sensitive care to SM individuals but also to address structural stigma contributing to these health disparities.PMID:38511544 | DOI:10.1017/S2045796024000210 (Source: Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences)

The assessment of bladder cancer resectability with bimanual palpation: A prospective study in laparoscopy and open cystectomy patients
CONCLUSIONS: The identification of limited bladder mobility during preoperative EUA yielded prognostic information on surgical margin status. Our findings suggest that EUA has the potential to provide valuable insights in the assessment of bladder resectability. However, further research in a larger cohort of patients is warranted to validate and expand on these findings.PMID:38508941 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2024.02.006 (Source: Urologic Oncology)

Impact of water exhaled out by visitors in show caves: a case study from the Moravian Karst (Czech Republic)
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Mar 19. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-32946-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe anthropogenic impact of the water and CO2 exhaled by visitors was studied in the show caves of the Moravian Karst (Czech Republic), especially in the Balcarka and Výpustek Caves. Two alternative models based on (1) the known/presumed composition of the breathed air and physical activity of visitors and (2) the detailed monitoring microclimatic data were proposed. The CO2 fluxes of 2.4 × 10-4 and (2.0-3.9) × 10-4 mol person-1 s-1 and the water vapor fluxes of (3.2-8.9) × 10-3 and (0.6-1.2) × 10-2 g person-1 s-1 w...

The economic burden of obesity in 4 south-eastern European countries associated with obesity-related co-morbidities
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings confirm that the high prevalence of obesity and its comorbidities result in substantial financial burden to all 4 SEE public payers. By quantifying the burden of obesity from a public healthcare perspective, our study aims to support policy efforts that promote health education and promotion in combating obesity in the region.PMID:38504302 | PMC:PMC10953276 | DOI:10.1186/s12913-024-10840-4 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Comparative genomics of an extensively drug resistant strain Klebsiella pneumoniae IITR008 with international high-risk clonal lineage ST147 isolated from river water
Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek. 2024 Mar 15;117(1):57. doi: 10.1007/s10482-024-01955-z.ABSTRACTCarbapenem resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae causing severe infection resulting in morbidity and mortality have become a global health concern. K. pneumoniae with sequence type ST147 is an international high-risk clonal lineage, genomic studies have been done on K. pneumoniae ST147 isolated from clinical origin but genomic data for environmental K. pneumoniae ST147 is very scarce. Herein, K. pneumoniae IITR008, an extensively drug resistant and potentially hypervirulent bacterium, was isolated from Triveni Sangam, the confluence of three ...
