Cephalometric Evaluation in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea undergoing Lateral Pharyngoplasty
Conclusion The longer the distance between the hyoid bone and the mandibular plane, the greater the preoperative AHI, and LP was an effective OSA treatment. Cephalometric variables are not able to modify or determine the success of LP in apneic patients in the population assessed. [...] Thieme Revinter Publicações Ltda. Can Alveolar Bone Grafting Using Posterior Iliac Crest be a Day Surgery Procedure?
CONCLUSIONS: Same day discharge is safe and well-received in appropriately selected patients who undergo ABG using posterior iliac crest. Perioperative patient/family education is essential.PMID:38436060 | DOI:10.1177/10556656241237419 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Suprazygomatic Maxillary Nerve Block in Palatoplasty: A Retrospective Cohort Study of Perioperative Outcomes in Syndromic and Non-Syndromic Children
CONCLUSIONS: Compared to surgical site infiltration of local anesthetic alone, adding SMB reduces intra- and postoperative narcotic requirements and decreases length of stay. These benefits apply to both syndromic and non-syndromic children. SMB does not meaningfully affect respiratory outcomes.PMID:38426799 | DOI:10.1177/10556656241234595 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Longitudinal Speech Outcome at 5 and 10 Years in UCLP: Influence of Speech Therapy and Secondary Velopharyngeal Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: It is important to strive for speech at 'peer level' before age 5. Criteria for speech therapy intervention and for methods used needs to be evidence-based.PMID:38408738 | DOI:10.1177/10556656231225575 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Systematic review of non-invasive ventilation and craniofacial fractures: a multidisciplinary perspective and recommendations for management
The anatomically complex craniofacial skeleton demands special consideration when caring for cases of polytrauma or medically compromised patients with craniofacial fractures. This paper utilises a systematic review and multidisciplinary opinions to create an algorithm for the hospital-based care of patients with craniofacial fractures (base of skull, orbit, paranasal sinus, and mandible) who require non-invasive ventilation (NIV). Each fracture location has a unique predisposition to a different type of emphysema and associated morbidity. (Source: The British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)
