Prospective cohort study on facial profile changes in infants with Robin sequence and healthy controls
CONCLUSIONS: Based on longitudinal 3D images, we describe changes in objective parameters of facial profile in infants with and without RS during the first year of life. Our findings indicate catch-up growth in infants treated for RS. Video Abstract.PMID:38578561 | DOI:10.1007/s12519-024-00797-z (Source: World Journal of Pediatrics : WJP)

Timing of Alveolar Bone Graft and Barriers to Care
CONCLUSION: Patients with public insurance are approximately 3.75 times more likely to receive ABG during permanent dentition. Multidisciplinary teams should work closely with patients on public insurance to ensure timely delivery of ABG.Level of Evidence III, Retrospective.PMID:38576319 | DOI:10.1177/10556656241242695 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)

Clinical presentation and genetics of tricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome (TRPS) type 1: A single-center case series of 15 patients and seven novel TRPS1 variants
Eur J Med Genet. 2024 Apr 2:104937. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmg.2024.104937. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome (TRPS) is a rare malformation syndrome characterized by distinctive facial, ectodermal, and skeletal features. TRPS is divided into TRPS type I/III caused by pathogenic variants in TRPS1 and TRPS type II caused by contiguous gene deletions also spanning EXT1 and RAD21. Due to its rarity, knowledge of the clinical course of TRPS remains limited. Therefore, we collected and characterized a case series of 15 TRPS type I patients (median age at diagnosis 15 [interquartile range: 10-18] years, 11 f...

Fibrous dysplasia of the head and neck in Southern Finland: a retrospective study on clinical characteristics, diagnostics, and treatment
ConclusionAlthough highly variable in its clinical manifestations, head and neck FD lesions are often symptomatic and impose risk for extra-skeletal complications. Treatment is often conservative but should be individually tailored. Future studies are encouraged to better define the disease characteristics and hopefully offer new treatment possibilities. New method for analysing spatial relationships of facial muscles on MRI: a pilot study
Dysfunction of the facial musculature can have significant physical, social, and psychological consequences. In surgeries such as cleft surgery or craniofacial bimaxillary osteotomies, the perioral facial muscles may be detached or severed, potentially altering their functional vectors and mimicry capabilities. Ensuring correct reconstruction and maintenance of anatomical sites and muscle vectors is crucial in these procedures. However, a standardized method for perioperative assessment of the facial musculature and function is currently lacking. (Source: International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Complex-Type Foreign Body Penetrating Injuries of the Craniofacial Region and Surgical Management: A Report of Three Cases
ConclusionWe give an overview of the diagnosis and treatment of penetrating foreign body trauma encountered in our department. Every foreign body  penetrating trauma demands a formulation of a different surgical plan and stands as a challenge for the treating surgeons. Adequate radiology knowledge, detection, vigilant clinical assessment, and tension-free closure are a few of the important aspects for the ideal management of penetrating fore ign body trauma. Elastic Chain Premaxillary Retraction Appliance Does Not Increase Inter-Canthal Dimension in Patients with Bilateral Cleft Lip and Palate
CONCLUSIONS: Inter-medial and inter-lateral canthal dimension increased after ECPR but returned to baseline growth trajectory. These dimensions were above normal at all time-points. There was no difference between those that did and did not have dentofacial orthopedic manipulation.PMID:38515321 | DOI:10.1177/10556656241241200 (Source: The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal)
