Amazon Can Still Surprise Me
By KIM BELLARD It’s Cyber Monday, and you’ve probably been shopping this weekend. In-stores sales on Black Friday rose 2.2% this year, whereas online sakes rose almost 8%, to $9.8b – over half of which was via mobile shopping. Cyber Monday, though, is expected to outpace Black Friday’s online shopping, with an estimated $12b, 5.4% higher than last year.  Lest we forget, Amazon’s Prime Day is even bigger than either Cyber Monday or Black Friday.   All that shopping means lots of deliveries, and here’s where I got a surprise: according to a Wall Street Journal analysis, Amazon is now the leadin...

Zealous for Wellness: How to Replace Hype with Data
This article begins a series that looks at useful measures of health and how the companies that promote wellness programs demonstrate their success. We’ll see measurements of objective outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, and what payers look for when they can’t get direct evidence of improvements in wellness. You’ll note, as we survey the wellness solutions and measurements used, that the leading organizations in this space are payers, not clinicians. I’m sure that doctors and nurse practitioners truly care for the overall happiness and wellbeing of their patients. But the institutions aren’t...

Please Include “ mitral regurgitation ” in the “ Complication basket ” of hypertensive heart disease
Hypertension is a prevalent condition in the general population, as is mitral regurgitation (MR). For most of us, HT traditionally conveys a “singular meaning” that is, high pressure within blood vessels. We often forget that the origin of blood pressure begins right inside the heart, i.e, the left ventricle, which is guarded by two valves – the aortic and mitral. (Though we are aware, LVH is the classical response to HT), Obviously, there will be signiifcant consequences to the structural integrity of these valves when LV pressure is raised beyond the tolerable limit of endocardial layers that line th...

Your Insulin of the Future Could Be " Made in China " if Big PBMs Have a Say in the Matter
Back on June 16, 2022, I published an article on LinkedIn entitled "How the Civica Insulin Announcement May Be Disruptive to the PBM Kickback Scheme" (see the article athttps://www.linkedin.com/pulse/how-civica-insulin-announcement-may-disruptive-pbm-scheme-strumello/ if you wish to read it) which predicted that a growing number of insulin biosimilars whose active pharmaceutical ingredients (API ' s) are cultured in offshore laboratories are forecast to hit the U.S. market in the next few years. Five Things Hospitals Should Do Immediately to Improve their Cybersecurity Posture
The following is a guest article by Jonathan Goldberger, Senior Vice President, Security Practices & Strategic Sales at TPx Hospitals face the threat of cyberattacks daily and each attack threatens the hospital’s public brand and, worst of all, public health. Because nearly every function at hospitals today is electronic, a cyberattack is crippling to the point where a provider can’t do anything. Even tasks such as sending a prescription to the pharmacy and ordering or reviewing X-rays are challenging amid a cyberattack. It’s no secret that threat actors are targeting companies and organizations regardless of the...

Two Weeks of Purging, Releasing, and Opening
Integration of my recent MDMA journey has been going well and keeping me busier than I expected. It actually feels like I’m still going through that journey. I sense that the energies involved knew that I’d have two weeks to myself with Rachelle out of town (she’s visiting family in Canada and returns tonight), so they invited me to have an extended solo experience. I’d kept my schedule very open during those two weeks, so I feel that on some level I said yes to that invitation. I haven’t taken any substances since a microdose of mushrooms on the 16th, opting for a longer break, but that ha...
