Caffeine-Free Year
One of my goals for 2017 is to go caffeine-free for the entire year. This includes having no coffee, espresso, tea (black, green, white), caffeinated soda, chocolate, cocoa, cacao, etc. Herbal tea that’s naturally caffeine-free is okay though.
I feel this is something I just don’t need in my life this year. My mind feels sharper, calmer, and more focused without it. 🙂 (Source: Steve Pavlina's Personal Development Blog)

7 Simple Smoothies to Boost Your Mood
I have mentioned in some of my posts that drinking a green smoothie is one of my more effective sanity tools. For fear of sounding like an infomercial, I must say that I realize there is no simple cure for depression. But I do think chugging down two or three of these leafy-green concoctions a day has significantly impacted my health and begun the healing process for some of my conditions.
The Benefits of Green Smoothies
Why green smoothies?
“Greens are the primary found group that matches human nutritional needs most completely,” explains Victoria Boutenko in her book Green for Life. They are nutrition powerhouses, pa...

Can Coca Cola give you a better sun tan? Episode 141
Can Coca Cola give you a better tan?
Nanda asks…Will Coca Cola give you a better sun tan?

When I first head this I thought it was an obscure, ridiculous rumor. But I was wrong. it turns out it’s a very pervasive, ridiculous rumor.
Yeah, if you Google “using coca cola to tan” you get THOUSANDS of search results from people raving about the tanning powers of Coke. People all over the world say that you can get a darker tan if you apply Coke to your skin. My favorite is…Top ten myths about Coca Cola which just happen to be true. But all the article does is repeat the myth – there’s not a hint of evide...

Do anti-aging patches really work? Episode 135
Do anti-aging patches really work?
Julia asks…Can micro needle patches really work to deliver anti-aging ingredients like hyaluronic acid?
Coincidentally I just read a study about a new technology for lightening age spots that involves, get this, Dissolving Micro Needles. This research was published by a Korean team in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology and here’s what they did…
They developed a patch containing 4-n-butylresorcinol an active ingredient which is able to prevent melanocytes from producing melanin (the pigment in hair and skin.) They had 45 panelists use the patch for 8 weeks and then they measure...

Chocolate Walnut Ice Cream
Yes, ice cream can fit into your Wheat Belly lifestyle . . . but some adjustments will be necessary.
I have yet to find a commercially produced ice cream or custard that I thought was truly healthy. Even the “no sugar added” ice cream brands are usually sweetened with sorbitol and maltitol that can still cause rises in blood sugar (as well as small LDL particles that lead to heart disease), not to mention gas and diarrhea–-not the best choice after a romantic dinner!
Here’s a way to make your own thick, rich custard without sugar, sorbitol, maltitol, and without having to endure gas and diarrhea. If you have a dai...

Triple Cocoa Bars
These healthy Triple Cocoa Bars will blast you with chocolate and cocoa from every direction!
Look for cacao nibs in health food stores, specialty food stores, Whole Foods Market, or at nuts.com. If unavailable, the bars are still delicious without them.
These bars contain around 4-5 grams “net” carbs per bar, well within the tolerance for most people.
Yields approximately 10 bars
1 cup ground almonds
2 tablespoons coconut flour
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup cacao nibs
1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
2 ounces 85-90% cocoa chocolate, finely chopped
3/4 cup raw pumpkin or sunflower seeds
Swee...

"Abengourou, Côte d'Ivoire | December 12, 2015 A young boy carries a heavy basket laden with cocoa seeds in a remote farming commune in Côte d'Ivoire. For a decade and a half, the big chocolate makers have promised to end child labor in their industry — and have spent tens of millions of dollars in the effort. But as of the latest estimate, 2.1 million West African children still do the dangerous and physically taxing work of harvesting cocoa. What will it take to fix the problem? "Gagnoa, Cote D'Ivoire | December 15, 2015 A young teen holds a open cocoa melon, revealing its fleshy seeds. Eventually the "meat" of the fruit is discarded and the seeds set out to dry. These dry seeds become the basic ingredient for chocolate. Chocolate production has been plagued by the use of child labor with many companies unable or unwilling to halt the practice. Test results 2016
About 15 months have zoomed by since my last lab tests and so I was delighted to find no significant change in today's test results. My blood creatinine level remains at 2.0mg/dl, which is right where it was when I was first diagnosed with chronic kidney disease almost seven years ago. Kidney disease tends to progress so I consider avoiding progression an achievement!
You can view 7 years of my test results, from initial diagnosis to present, here.
I can't say if my attempt to live a healthy lifestyle has been a factor in avoiding progression of the disease but it probably doesn't hurt (and has other benefits...
