Knudsen Marko Lucijanić Rajko Kusec About 30 years ago, the first clinical trials of the safety and efficacy of recombinant interferon-α2 (rIFN-α2) were performed. Since then, several single-arm studies have shown rIFN-α2 to be a highly potent anticancer agent against several cancer types. Unfortu...

Transplantation algorithm for myelofibrosis in 2022 and beyond
Best Pract Res Clin Haematol. 2022 Jun;35(2):101369. doi: 10.1016/j.beha.2022.101369. Epub 2022 Aug 3.ABSTRACTMyelofibrosis (MF) is a chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm with a very heterogenous clinical course. Median survival of patients with overt MF is close to 6 years, but with great individual variability. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) constitutes the only curative treatment, yet the advanced age of MF patients, together with significant transplant-related mortality, limit the applicability of this procedure in clinical practice to less than 10% of patients. In this article, we review the c...

MPN-541 Estimated Plasma Volume Status in Patients With Primary Myelofibrosis and Associated Thrombotic and Mortality Risks
Context: Blood plasma experiences substantial changes in both volume and composition in patients with chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and represents a large reservoir of cytokines and other mediators of inflammation. Higher estimated plasma volume status (ePVS) has recently been shown to correlate with increased thrombotic risk in polycythemia vera patients. Objective: To estimate clinical and prognostic associations of ePVS in patients with myelofibrosis. Design: Retrospective cohort study. (Source: Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia)

Applicability of probabilistic graphical models for early detection of SARS-CoV-2 reactive antibodies after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in hematological patients
This study depicts conditional probabilities of having detectable antibodies in the whole cohort and in specific scenarios such as B cell NHL, CLL, MM, and cMPN that may impact humoral responses. These results could be useful to focus on additional preventive and/or monitoring interventions in these highly immunosuppressed hemato logical patients. (Source: Annals of Hematology)

Transformation from polycythemia vera to acute promyelocytic leukemia: Case report and literature review
Conclusion: Polycythemia vera can transform into acute promyelocytic leukemia; therefore, it is important to review bone aspiration and other tests to perform a comprehensive assessment and monitor the disease status, to detect disease progression and intervene early when it transforms into acute promyelocytic leukemia. Impact of molecular profiling on the management of patients with myelofibrosis
Myelofibrosis (MF) is a chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) that appears de novo (primary myelofibrosis, PMF) or develops from a prior polycythemia vera (PV) or essential thrombocythemia (ET) [secondary myelofibrosis, SMF]. The disease originates from a pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell whose clonal proliferation is accompanied by inappropriate release of cytokines and growth factors which induce bone marrow fibrosis and extramedullary hematopoiesis, usually resulting in splenomegaly [1]. Splenic Infarct as the Presenting Manifestation of Essential Thrombocythemia
Conclusion: Our patient had an undiagnosed case of essential thrombocythemia and presented with symptoms related to splenic infarction. To the best of our knowledge, few cases of splenic infarction consequent to essential thrombocythemia have been reported.PMID:35756582 | PMC:PMC9196959 | DOI:10.31486/toj.21.0073 (Source: Ochsner Journal)
