Fostering Clinical Readiness: Integrating Trauma-Informed Care into Nursing Simulation
In 2023, the National Children's Alliance reported that, as of 2021, over 600,000 children were victims of abuse and neglect in the United States. This figure is likely lower due to underreporting (National Children ’s Alliance, 2023). The trauma caused by child maltreatment impacts patients and families across their lifespan. Thus, healthcare providers must understand trauma's impact on patients and their families, but simultaneously, they must also recognize and address its effects on their own lives and th eir coworkers (Grossman et al., 2021). Organized sexualized and ritual violence: Results from two representative German samples
CONCLUSION: Although ORA is discussed thoroughly, frequencies in the German population are low. This may be due to inconsistent terminology and operationalization of definitions with lack of precision. However, an intersection of conspiracy beliefs and the topic of ritual violence sheds another light on this issue that should receive more attention.PMID:38643644 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2024.106792 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)

Experiences of physical and emotional intimate partner violence during the COVID-19 pandemic: a comparison of prepandemic and pandemic data in a longitudinal study of Australian mothers
Conclusions Findings suggest that the spike in IPV-related crime statistics following the onset of the pandemic (typically incidents of physical violence) is the tip of the iceberg for women’s IPV experiences. There is a need to increase the capacity of health practitioners to recognise emotional as well as physical IPV, and IPV ought to be considered where women present with mental health problems. Child sexual abuse and social identity loss: A qualitative analysis of survivors' public accounts
Discussion of this analysis centres on the pathological consequences of social identity change. Both the loss of valued identities and the acquisition of aberrant and isolating identities are experienced and constructed as devastating by those affected by child sexual abuse. This has important implications, not only for those impacted by child sexual abuse but for how abuse is discussed in society, and how it is approached by policy makers, educators and individuals working with survivors and their families.PMID:38634765 | DOI:10.1111/bjso.12752 (Source: The British Journal of Social Psychology)

Dimensions of family stress and repetitive nonsuicidal self-injury in adolescence: Examining the interactive effects of impulsivity and emotion dysregulation
CONCLUSIONS: These findings lend empirical support to dimensional models of adversity and suggest that adolescents who experience threat-related family stress may have greater impulsivity and are more likely to report R-NSSI in the context of emotion dysregulation.PMID:38636157 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2024.106804 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)

Arab mothers' viewpoints: Why their children are removed from home
CONCLUSIONS: The study sheds light, for the first time as far as we know, on the perspectives of Arab mothers concerning their children's removal. Early support could avert removal, and social workers should make greater efforts to promote child reunification. It is paramount that professionals build trust with these mothers, through culturally sensitive and empowering engagement.PMID:38636155 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2024.106793 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)
