Factors associated with increased length of stay in degenerative cervical spine surgery: a cohort analysis from the Canadian Spine Outcomes and Research Network
CONCLUSIONS: Patient and clinical factors predictive of prolonged LOS after ACDF and PCF are highly variable, warranting individual consideration for possible mitigation. Perioperative AEs remained a consistent independent predictor of prolonged LOS in both cohorts, highlighting the importance of preventing intra- and postoperative complications.PMID:38579341 | DOI:10.3171/2024.1.SPINE231211 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery.Spine)

Full endoscopic laminotomy decompression versus anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for the treatment of single-segment cervical spinal stenosis: a retrospective, propensity score-matched study
Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is the standard procedure for the treatment of cervical spinal stenosis (CSS), but complications such as adjacent segment degeneration can seriously affect the lo... (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research)

Cervical disc herniation presenting with contralateral radiculopathy: A case report
CONCLUSION: Although extremely rare, cervical disc herniation may cause contralateral radiculopathy. If other diagnosis is excluded and cervical disc herniation is thought the only possible origin of the pain, surgery can be considered.PMID:38574511 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijscr.2024.109401 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Postoperative Airway Management after Anterior Cervical Spine Surgery: Retrospective Neurosurgical Multicenter Study
Neurol Med Chir (Tokyo). 2024 Apr 4. doi: 10.2176/jns-nmc.2023-0283. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAirway complications that occur after anterior cervical spine surgery pose a life-threatening risk, which encompasses complications including prolonged intubation, unplanned reintubation, and/or necessity of tracheostomy. The present study aimed to identify the surgical risks associated with postoperative airway complications in neurosurgical training institutes. A retrospective, multicenter, observational review of data from 365 patients, who underwent anterior cervical spine surgery between 2018 and 2022, at three such inst...

Risk factors associated with false negative rate of sentinel lymph node biopsy in endometrial cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsAlternative injection techniques (other than the cervix), Tc-99m dye tracer, and the absence of postoperative pathologic ultrastaging are risk factors for a high FNR in endometrial cancer patients who undergo SLNB; therefore, we should be vigilant for missed diagnosis of metastatic lymph nodes after SLNB in such populations.Systematic review registrationhttp://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/, identifier CRD42023433637.
