Do we still need Crile or Hayes Martin approach for cervical lymphadenectomy? A retrospective study of 56 patients with Minimal Access Neck Dissection
The concept of Neck Dissection was introduced byCrilemore than a century ago. Since then, multiple modifications have been adopted to ensure preservation of vital structures. With the new era minimal access surgery incorporating laparoscopic, endoscopic and robotic surgery is becoming a new normal. Over the years we have carried out Neck dissections using minimal access incision. Although there is no clear cut on the average nodal yield required in selective or modified neck dissections, it has been reported that the average nodal yield of more than 18 is associated with better survival rate. Importance of cerebral angiography in the evaluation of delayed carotid stent thrombosis: a case report
ConclusionIn the setting of delayed carotid stent thrombosis secondary to antiplatelet noncompliance, digital subtraction angiography may play an essential diagnostic role for early identification and determination of the most appropriate treatment. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)

Impact of near-infrared fluorescence imaging plus indocyanine green fluorescence on postoperative hypoparathyroidism rates after total thyroidectomy and central neck lymph node dissection
CONCLUSION: The use of near-infrared fluorescence imaging + ICG fluorescence decreased both transient and permanent hypoparathyroidism rates in patients undergoing total thyroidectomy and central neck lymph node dissection.PMID:38381933 | DOI:10.1093/bjs/znae022 (Source: The British Journal of Surgery)

Biomechanical comparison of static and dynamic cervical plates in terms of the bone fusion, tissue degeneration, and implant behavior
Using an anterior cervical fixation device in the anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has evolved to various systems of static and dynamic cervical plates (SCP and DCP). Dynamic cervical plates have... (Source: Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research)

Clinical analysis of a new multifunctional instrument set for gasless endoscopic thyroidectomy with two different approaches
ConclusionAlthough the two approaches of gasless endoscopic surgery have different operative paths and different time periods for cavity construction, both approaches are similar in terms of the principle of cavity construction, safe and reliable postoperative efficacy, and good cosmetic effect. Therefore, the same set of instruments can be used to complete the surgery in both approaches, thus saving medical resources and facilitating the popularization of this technology. Hirayama ’s disease associated with cervical deformity and spinal cord compression: a case report from Sweden
ConclusionHD is rare and is easily overlooked. Surgical intervention shows promising results for neurological progression, but HD is also reported to be a self-limited disease. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Atypical Presentation and Diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma: A Case Report
We present a case of a 69-year-old male with a history of chronic neck pain who was seen in the emergency department due to acute, severe neck pain with initial CTA imaging that suggested left VAD. However, follow-up MRI of his cervical spine identified that what seemed to be a left VAD was instead multiple myeloma. This case demonstrates the utility of using multiple imaging modalities, including CT, CTA, MRI, and MRA, in diagnosing an atypical presentation of multiple myeloma and the consequences of physician implicit biases that are often involved when treating patients with chronic pain.PMID:38327916 | PMC:PMC10849065 ...

Predicting the recurrence of usual-type cervical adenocarcinoma using a nomogram based on clinical and pathological factors: a retrospective observational study
ConclusionBased on the FIGO staging, peripheral nerve invasion, tumor size, and months of postoperative HPV infection, the predictive model and nomogram for postoperative recurrence of usual-type cervical adenocarcinoma are precise and effective. More extensive stratified evaluations of the risk of cervical adenocarcinoma recurrence are still required, as is a thorough assessment of postoperative recurrence in the future. The fusion rates at different times of cortical iliac crest autograft or allograft compared with cages after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion: a meta-analysis
ConclusionApplying CICA has an advantage on faster fusion than using a cage but not the long-term fusion rate in ACDF. Future high-quality RCTs regarding the hardware complications between CICA and cage in younger patients are warranted for the deduced indication. (Source: European Spine Journal)
