Symptomatic lymphocele after robot-assisted pelvic lymphadenectomy as part of the primary surgical treatment for cervical and endometrial cancer: a retrospective cohort study
Pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is part of the primary treatment for early-stage cervical cancer and high-intermediate risk or high-risk endometrial cancer. Pelvic lymphocele is a postoperative complication of PLND and when symptomatic, lymphoceles necessitate treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence and risk factors of symptomatic lymphocele after robot-assisted laparoscopic PLND in cervical and endometrial cancer. Using Piezosurgery in Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion to Treat Complex Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy Is Safe and Effective
CONCLUSION: For treating cCSM, both the piezosurgery and traditional tools led to significant neurological improvement. However, the piezosurgery was superior to the traditional tools in terms of surgical time, blood loss, and complication rate. Hence, piezosurgery was a safe and effective adjunct for ACDF treating cCSM.PMID:38155878 | PMC:PMC10754634 | DOI:10.1155/2023/5306445 (Source: Adv Data)

Alterations in Swallowing Six Weeks After Primary Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF)
AbstractThis aim of this study is to characterize the nature and pathophysiology of dysphagia after ACDF surgery by precisely and comprehensively capturing within-subject changes on videofluoroscopy between preoperative and postoperative time points. 21 adults undergoing planned primary ACDF procedures were prospectively recruited and enrolled. Participants underwent standardized preoperative and six-week postoperative videofluoroscopic swallow studies. Videos were blindly rated using the Penetration-Aspiration Scale (PAS) and analysis of total pharyngeal residue (%C2-42), swallowing timing, kinematics, and anatomic change...

Late Airway Compromise Secondary to Dural Tear and Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak
Conclusion: Dural tears following cervical disc surgery are rare and almost always identified in the immediate postoperative period; however, a dural tear should still be considered when a patient presents with a fluid collection at a later date. While techniques for securing the airway would not be different based on the type of fluid, knowing that the fluid collection is CSF could prompt the anesthesia team to place a lumbar drain.PMID:38143544 | PMC:PMC10741812 | DOI:10.31486/toj.23.0026 (Source: Ochsner Journal)
