Comparison of refractive outcomes obtained with two swept-source OCT-based optical biometers after cataract surgery: A study of 152 eyes
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed excellent correlation and agreement for the biometric measurements and the IOL power calculation with the SRK/T formula between both biometers.PMID:38663226 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2024.104186 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Outcomes of iStent inject combined with cataract surgery in Asian eyes: Australian data from the Fight Glaucoma Blindness international registry
ConclusioniStentinject implantation combined with phacoemulsification in Asian eyes showed a reduction of IOP and glaucoma medication use in a real-world clinical setting. The safety profile of the device is good with minimal adverse outcomes, however, a subset of patients required secondary procedures within the 12 month follow up. Couching of cataractous lens in microphthalmic eyes with irido-fundal coloboma: revisiting the historical technique
ConclusionCouching of cataractous lens is an effective and safe method in microphthalmic eyes with irido-fundal coloboma as last resort procedure, where no other surgical procedure may work. It provides an ambulatory gain of visual acuity in previously non-ambulatory subjects. Corneal measurements help in determining the subset of patients where couching offers viable option. An analysis of the factors involved in IOL decentration after phacoemulsification using CASIA 2 anterior  segment optical coherence tomography
ConclusionGreater crystalline lens diameter was associated with greater decentration and with greater ITS. Day-one IOL decentration seems to be the main determinant of final IOL decentration. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

Silicone Oil Tamponade for Therapy of Primary Retinal Detachment in Patients Who Live at High Altitudes
CONCLUSION: PPV with SO injection seems to be a safe and efficient surgical approach in the treatment of primary uncomplicated RRD in patients living at high altitudes and was associated with good anatomical and functional outcome in our series. However, the need for a follow-up surgery to remove SO should be weighed in these cases.PMID:38653297 | DOI:10.1055/a-2233-0971 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) with Refractive and Diffractive Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) Intraocular Lenses
CONCLUSIONS: With both types of EDOF-IOLs, the majority of patients could perform most of their daily activities without spectacles, except reading, and were highly satisfied with their IOLs. Patients with diffractive Zeiss AT LARA EDOF-IOLs were more likely to accomplish unaided near-range visual tasks; however, they were also at a higher risk of experiencing glares or halos at night.PMID:38653290 | DOI:10.1055/a-2211-8796 (Source: Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde)

Influence of Post-radiation Ocular Surface Disorder on Ocular Surgery: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
CONCLUSION: The continuous worsening of clinical symptoms of the disorder of the ocular surface after proton beam radiotherapy can be the result of a post-radiation syndrome. Gradual expansion of ischemia, vasculitis, and inflammatory mediators compresses the retinal tissue, leading to recurrent macular edema as well as to secondary glaucoma and corneal decompensation. Band keratopathy is occasionally noted and seems to result from severe post-radiation disorder of the ocular surface. However, PKP would typically be indicated in cases of corneal perforation, uncontrolled infectious keratitis, or for improving vision in the...
