Hantavirus Infections among Military Forces
CONCLUSIONS: Military maneuvers usually include soil removal, spreading, digging with accompanied dust, and living in field and other harsh conditions, which easily expose soldiers to rodents and their excreta. Therefore, the risks of hantavirus infections in military context are obvious. All military infections have been caused by hantaviruses leading to hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome.PMID:37428512 | DOI:10.1093/milmed/usad261 (Source: Military Medicine)

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 5299: Chemical Profiling and Bioactivity Assessment of Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G. Don. Essential Oil: Exploring Pure Compounds and Synergistic Combinations
Ivana Carev Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G. Don., immortelle, is a plant species used in ethnomedicine and the food industry as a spice added to food, beverages, and bakery products. It has been shown to possess various biological activities, such as antioxidant and antibacterial activity, making it useful as a natural preservative. We investigated the phytochemical profile and biological activity of H. italicum essential oils from wild-grown plant material collected from natural habitats in the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Using high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a visual investigat...

Contribution of orthographic knowledge to reading and spelling in Bosnian highly transparent orthography
We examined the relationship between orthographic knowledge and reading and spelling performance in children from the second to the fifth grade of elementary school. We included measures of orthographic knowledge in two scripts (Latin and Cyrillic) for the same language, at both the lexical and sublexical levels. Word-specific orthographic knowledge was assessed by presenting children with pairs of words in which one word followed the orthographic rules of the Bosnian language, while the other was spelled incorrectly. General orthographic knowledge was assessed with an orthographic word-likeness task, where children had to...

Differences in Outcomes Between Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2)-Positive Metastatic Breast Cancer Patients in Upper Middle-Income versus High-Income Countries: A Retrospective Study from 4 Oncology Centers
CONCLUSIONS Results of our study showed superior survival among patients who were treated with dual first-line HER2 therapy as well as second-line trastuzumab emtansine therapy than in those patients in other centers where these drugs were not available. Raising awareness about this could help improve the situation.PMID:37264567 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940356 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

P105 Epidemiological characteristics of children with cystic fibrosis in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The epidemiological picture of cystic fibrosis (CF) has changed significantly in recent decades. Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) does not have CF centre nor register of patients. The aim of this study is to analyse the epidemiological characteristics of children with CF in BiH. We started with the hypothesis that the epidemiological characteristics of children with CF in BiH do not differ from the epidemiological characteristics of children in the European Cystic Fibrosis Society Patient Registry (ECFSPR) member countries. Expansion of hantavirus infection during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2021
Conclusion. The reported infections were probably caused by exposure of individuals to at-risk areas inhabited by contaminated rodents as natural reservoirs of hantavirus. As a highly endemic area, B and H requires continuous monitoring and increased awareness of this problem.PMID:37255412 | DOI:10.1099/jmm.0.001687 (Source: Journal of Medical Microbiology)
