Cardiovascular Disease in South Asians in the United States: Lifestyle Strategies for Risk Factor Reduction
The South Asian population represents a heterogenous group of people from seven countries: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. Collectively, South Asians (SAs) constitute nearly a quarter of the world's population and are one of the fastest growing demographics in the United States.1 However, they also suffer a disproportionately larger burden of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Congenital pulmonary airway malformation in a 5  month old boy, complicated by pneumonia
AbstractCongenital cystic lesions of the lung are rare. The most common congenital anomaly among them, involving the lower respiratory tract, is congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM), currently referred to as congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM). They may be incidentally detected on prenatal or postnatal imaging. They usually present within two years of life, rarely in adults. CPAMs may be asymptomatic at birth. Some may opt for observation alone due to lack of evidence on the incidence of long-term complications. However, rarely has a CPAM remained asymptomatic throughout life and complications even...

Progress Toward Rubella Elimination - World Health Organization South-East Asia Region, 2013-2021
This report updates a previous report and describes progress toward rubella elimination in SEAR during 2013-2021 (2). During 2013-2021, six SEAR countries introduced RCV; all countries in the Region now use RCV in routine immunization. Routine immunization coverage with the first dose of a rubella-containing vaccine (RCV1) increased >600%, from 12% during 2013 to 86% during 2021, and an estimated 515 million persons were vaccinated via RCV supplementary immunization activities (SIAs)¶ during 2013-2021. During this time, annual reported rubella incidence declined by 80%, from 5.5 to 1.1 cases per million population. Mal...

Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOur original study explored trends in rabies-related cases in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation region from 2017 to 2021. We analyzed population-level data from Global Health Observatory, World Animal Health Information Database and media reports using Microsoft Excel v.2016. Rabies prevalence varied with India experiencing the highest increase, while Bhutan reported a significant decrease. In contrast, Nepal and Pakistan observed fluctuations, emphasizing the need for ongoing intervention.PMID:37278032 |...
