ACOM (DO) vs. Tulane (WL) vs. NEOMED (WL)
This is more complex than it seems on the surface. My wife has a job offer near ACOM where she'll make 7 figures. I'm not 100% set on what specialty I want to do either but I'm pretty sure it's not surgical. Definitely not family medicine or pediatrics. Leaning towards oncology, maybe rad onc, med onc, anesthesia, dermatology, cardiology, so most likely internal med with a fellowship. We also have a baby and are working on having another baby. ACOM Pros: + Wife makes lots of money +... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone afraid to send their kids to school?
I don’t want this to be a political discussion. But does anyone here feel a degree of safety concern for their kids at school? Or am i the only one -_- Im really really really hating how elementary schools are being targeted. My kid is 2 years away from elementary school. I just can’t imagine why someone would hurt innocent babies. It takes a special kind of terrible human being to do that - and if that kind of a person makes it alive to an ER then you have to save their life -_- Maybe... Does this job count as clinical experience?
Hi everyone! Does this job at the Mother and Baby Unit at the hospital count for clinical experience? It doesn't offer direct patient care but they did say they encouraged the employees to talk to patients and keep them company during downtime. Here is the description: Respond to patient call lights (I think this is pretty rare/ if the RN allows you too) Check on patients for safety, comfort Assist with setting up meals and ordering meals for patients Refresh patient's... Govt Report Reveals Fluoridation Futile. Fluoride Neurotoxic; EPA Sued
Despite increases in public water fluoridation, dental visits, sealants, fluoride varnish applications, and significant financial, training, and program investments, oral health hasn’t improved in 22 years in the US, according to a National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) Oral Health in America Report (December 2021). Further, there is no dispute that fluoride is neurotoxic, especially to babies' developing brains; but fluoridationists doubt the levels to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How long to take off for maternity leave?
Am currently pregnant & due in the last month of my PGY1 year. Will be a first time mom. My program offers 12 weeks (6wks paid, 6 wks unpaid) of maternity leave. Since I've never had a baby before, I'd love to know how long of a leave do you all suggest? I'm in FM residency. I want to take enough time off to properly take care of my baby & slowly recover. But I'd also like to not be completely rusty & out of touch with medicine when I return... or be really bored at home & regret taking too... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

New grad with some job options. Not sure what to do
I have two job opportunities that i'm currently debating between. 1. FFS PP with good patient flow and good collections percentage. Office does a good amount in production and theyre scheduled months ahead of time . Pay is 35% of production. I really liked it at this office and I got along well with the Doc and think it would be a good place to start. However, They're not offering a guaranteed salary or benefits (which my wife and I will need since we're planning on having a baby sometime... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2022 Update: "CA license, but no board cert. How to get life back on track with a baby?"
To recap: Back in November 2017, I was living in Korea as a new father and was desperate to get back into medicine. I thought my best bet would be to get back into residency but that didn't fan out. In September 2018, I began working for a corporation that provides wound care services to patients in nursing homes. In June of 2019, I started my own private practice. Things were going well, then COVID happened. For more detail, I would refer you to the following posts: First post on 11/30/17... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Let's talk OB
Happy Thanksgiving! So OB has been great as a new attending. Let's have some fun. I'll start with some of my joys this year, feel free to chime in how you would approach these and your fun stories. 1) Fresh off the street in street clothes. Baby de-celling. A BIIIIIIG momma. No veins visible to the eyes, no time to roll in an ultrasound from the OR, no vein finder. Gotta go, gotta cut. Only thing available is sevo, nitrous, mask, and IM ketamine? 2) Again, mom coming in off the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
