Realizing the Dream: The Future of Primary Care Research
Ann Fam Med. 2022 Feb 14:2788. doi: 10.1370/afm.2788. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary care research is central to the successful transformation of care delivery, providing the crucial evidence to overcome the longstanding and widespread threats and challenges to the realization of primary care's full potential. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), as the federal agency specifically charged with conducting and supporting primary care research, plays a pivotal role in supporting the research and generating the evidence needed to advance primary care. Drawing upon decades of AHRQ-supported research stu...

Social determinants of health and patient-level mortality prediction after trauma
BACKGROUND Social determinants of health (SDOH) impact patient outcomes in trauma. Census data are often used to account for SDOH; however, there is no consensus on which variables are most important. Social vulnerability indices offer the advantage of combining multiple constructs into a single variable. Our objective was to determine if incorporation of SDOH in patient-level risk-adjusted outcome modeling improved predictive performance. METHODS We evaluated two social vulnerability indices at the zip code level: Distressed Community Index (DCI) and National Risk Index (NRI). Individual variable combinations f...

Complexity Bias in the Prevention of Iatrogenic Injury
Iatrogenic injury is a subject of great concern, fueled, in part, by research finding that medical error as the third leading cause of death worldwide.1,2 The US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) reported a 13% decrease between 2014 and 2017 across major patient safety events, most of which are related to iatrogenic injury in patients with complex conditions. These reductions in infections and injuries have saved $7.7 billion and averted 20,500 deaths.3 (Source: Mayo Clinic Proceedings)

What Is the Antibody Response and Role in Conferring Natural Immunity After SARS-CoV-2 Infection? Rapid, Living Practice Points From the American College of Physicians (Version 2)
Ann Intern Med. 2022 Jan 25. doi: 10.7326/M21-3272. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDESCRIPTION: The Scientific Medical Policy Committee (SMPC) of the American College of Physicians (ACP) developed these living, rapid practice points to summarize the current best available evidence on the antibody response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and protection against reinfection with SARS-CoV-2. This is version 2 of the ACP practice points, which serves to update version 1, published on 16 March 2021. These practice points do not evaluate vaccine-acquired immunity or cellular immunity.METHODS: The SMPC developed this version of the living,...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 1154: Prevalence of Depression and Anxiety in Nurses during the First Eleven Months of the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
-Rodak The high risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection can increase the physical and psychological strain on nurses in professional practice, which can lead to mental health problems. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to establish and estimate the combined incidence of depression and anxiety among nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic using standard measurement tools. A systematic search of the electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, and SCOPUS was carried out to identify cross-sectional studies in the period from 3 March 2020 to 18 February 2021. Two reviewers independently and critically...

Hence, a study protocol was registered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) with registration number: CRD42020150759. We used PubMed, Science Direct, LILACS and SCIELO to collect data from known literature using keywords containing MESH (Medical Subject Headings) terms. The risk of bias rating for the collected data was calculated using the Newcastle-Ottawa assessment Sc...
