Lifepoint Health is Using Modern Technology to Make Patient Data Actionable
We recently had a chance to sit down with Jessica Beegle, Senior Vice President, Chief Innovation Officer at Lifepoint Health, who shared with us that her past experience has given her a unique view in crafting the patient experience. Prior to Lifepoint Health, Beegle worked at Amazon AWS and Google, companies that are known for creating and using cutting- edge technology to deliver results. At Lifepoint Health, she was faced with many of the health IT “realities” that multiple hospitals and health systems across the nation are dealing with. The main issue being legacy technologies that don’t easily communicate...

Cognosos Leverages AI to Make Smart Real-Time Location Services Accurate and Affordable
Adrian Jennings, chief product officer of Cognosos, says that traditional real-time location services (RTLS) fail their clients. Either the services are so expensive that they’re not deployed widely enough, or they’re cheap but inaccurate. For instance, they might indicate that something is in the right room when it’s actually in a hallway in back. Cognosos takes a different approach. There’s no need for a nurse to consult a device and ask where they can find a wheelchair or suction pump. “The goal is to blend into the background—everything just works.” Instead of locating lost items, ...

New Lenovo Server Permits AI to Run Locally
Lenovo has been famous for their laptops for a long time, but they also have a strong business in computer servers. They offer hardware for data centers as well as edge locations, along with a SaaS style pricing model called TruScale. According to Robert Daigle, Director of Global AI at Lenovo, a new system called the Lenovo ThinkEdge SE455 V3 makes it possible to run compute-heavy tasks such as generative AI in a workplace at “the edge.” The SE455 is only half as loud as comparable servers, and can survive at a temperature of 55°C, and therefore can co-exist with people in a typical office or research center....

Obstacles to Healthcare Training Data Accuracy and How to Overcome Them
One of the biggest problems with AI solutions in healthcare right now is getting quality data that you can use to train your AI models.  When you train an AI model using generic data, it is like a child trying to teach another child.  For the AI models to be effective, they require the highest quality data including meta data that helps the model to understand the context of the data.  This is particularly true in healthcare which has extremely complex data models, superfluous data, and unique terminology. The good news for healthcare IT companies is that there are companies who can help them clean up and annotate their...

The Evolution of Suki ’ s Ambient Clinical Voice Solution and What Differentiates It in the Market
When I first had a chance to interview, Punit Soni, CEO of Suki, two years ago I was impressed with his accomplishments and intrigued by his unique view of the ambient clinical voice market.  In technology, 2 years is a long time.  In the world of AI, it’s an eternity.  Needless to say, Soni and his company have evolved a lot since I last talked to him and so I wanted to get an update on where Suki is at today and how it fits into the ever evolving ambient clinical voice space.  For reference, check out our other interviews where we asked similar questions as this interview with: Nuance’s DAX solutions, Ambien...

Oracle Health Goes Beyond Visit Summaries with Its Use of AI in Their EHR
Many companies are jumping on the AI bandwagon to offer services ranging from risk stratification to auto-generation of patient notes after a visit. Oracle Health wants to move further. In this video at the Oracle Health conference, Senior Vice President of Product Management, Suhas Uliyar describes how Oracle Health is creating tools that accompany and augment the workflow of physicians, nurses, and patients. Uliyar addresses the commonly noted problem of burnout among clinicians, and says that Oracle Health wants to speed up administrative work so they can talk more to patients. Trayt Addresses the Social Determinants of Mental Health
We all know about the growing mental health crisis in healthcare.  We’ve likely all heard about the challenges that social determinants of health (SDoH) play in our health.  How often have you heard how SDoH impacts people’s mental health?  The answer is certainly not enough, but many of the SDoH impact a person’s mental health as much as their physical health. In order to learn more about the connection between mental health and SDoH, we sat down with Malekeh Amini, Founder and CEO at Trayt Health.  In our interview, we ask Amini to share how mental health issues relate to various SDoH areas like fo...

Faculty and Student Perceptions of Unauthorized Collaborations
In this study, it was clear students do recognize the need for individual accountability and that their individual competence will be assessed, but they also recognize that they are encouraged to work with each other and that throughout their careers they will be working with colleagues in the clinical settings and for the rest of their lives. That gets at some of the tension, and we create some of that tension in the curriculum because we foster students working together in small groups and we embrace them supporting each other and helping each other learn. Then that comes up against the individual demonstration of compet...

Verato and CLEAR Come Together to Accelerate Adoption of Digital Identities in Healthcare
The HLTH conference is full of big announcements from various health IT companies.  One of the most interesting announcements I saw at HLTH 2023 was a strategic partnership between identity companies Verato and CLEAR.  I was really intrigued by this new partnership because far too often in healthcare two companies that are working in similar spaces choose to compete to the death rather than collaborating together.  I love to see these two companies come together to work on one of the hardest problems in healthcare: identity management. To learn more about the partnership between Verato and CLEAR, we sat down to chat wit...

Driving Patient Behavior and Connecting Patients with Their Care Teams
According to Rich Steinle, CEO of Carium, many healthcare organizations haven’t created a culture of “my health is every day” even though many of the DIY approaches to health like wearables are being fully embraced by patients.  This type of proactive monitoring of their health indicates that patients want to be more engaged and involved in their care.  In fact, trends like these indicate that patients want to shift away from the model of care where care is confined to the four walls of a clinic or hospital.  Instead, they want to use advanced virtual care technologies that can support their health on ...

Finding a Health Equity Partner for Language Services
The following is a guest article by Merrie Wallace, Chief Revenue Officer at Boostlingo In today’s healthcare landscape, the shift to value-based care and expanding requirements from the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) have magnified the importance of language access. As patient outcomes have become the focus in an increasingly diverse patient population, interpretation becomes essential for driving improvements in care for limited English proficiency (LEP) patients. There has been a growing need for on-demand services and increased outsourcing to meet them, with many organizations turning to external vendors to fill t...

TPGi Enables Healthcare Teams to Empower All Patients with Digital Accessibility
We’ve all been there: you arrive at a healthcare provider for an appointment, and there’s no one available at the check-in area. You might just see a kiosk to check in. Imagine, now, how frustrated you’d feel if that kiosk was out of order. Or its software is frozen.  For people with disabilities, any healthcare kiosk that isn’t fully digitally accessible may as well be out of order every single time. TPGi’s Business Development VP Matt Ater is blind, and he says patients like him face this problem regularly. Patients may be blind or have low vision. They may have problems clicking buttons because of coordinatio...
