Share experiences - by name requests
Hi! I'm an undergraduate student writing a research paper on the harms of Direct-to-Consumer Pharmaceutical Advertisements. I'm specifically focusing on private practice doctors, and the potential harm to them when a patient sees an advertisement for a medication, requests it by name, is subsequently denied a prescription for it (for any reason deemed necessary by the physician) and expresses their discontent through a negative review of the practice. I'm calling on physician testimony as... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why do the ca state prison jobs pay high and are always available ? Whats the catch?
I have never worked for a prison. Recruiters consistently tell me that the work load is very low, and its a dream job . Yet the jobs are consistently being advertised so I would guess its high turnover (for psychiatrists). Making $300/hr in a stress free low patient load job sounds tempting but literally anyone I have spoken to has nothing but discouraging words to say. The cons range from "not being able to check your phone, feeling locked in like you are in a prison too, the ever present... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Does club involvement matter for residency?
I am a current M1 at a US MD school. I would like to go into ENT. I see all my peers joining SIGs (special interest groups) and lots of advertisements for leadership positions. However, I am wondering if my time would be better spent studying harder or doing more research. I also don't really have any interest in these clubs, but I have a fear of missing out. Will it hurt me in any way if I avoid these clubs and just focus on research and studying? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

false advertising or acceptable for NP assessment?
Hello, All I recently ran into someone from the same program who advertised on his website that he "specializes" in neuropsychological assessment. I know this person did not have a two-year postdoc in NP and his internship (not APA accredited) was in treatment only. This person could have gotten a 1-year postdoc with mostly assessment (I would not know for sure) but I know it would not be under a neuropsychologist. So, Can this person say they "specialize" in NP assessment? Also, can... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Digital Path job got an “incredible volume of Responses”
“It’s XXXXX, Director of Pathology Services at XXXXXXX. I appreciate your response to our advertisement for GI pathologist position. Due to the incredible volume of responses, it might take me a bit to respond. I appreciate your patience.” Guys, there is no shortage of pathologists in this country looking for work. Digital pathology WILL DECIMATE the pathology job market. Mark my words. Get a solid job while you can. I’m being serious. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Working as a technician
Please delete if not appropriate. I keep seeing candidates referring to themselves as a "veterinary technician" or working as a technician for the experience hours. As a credentialed veterinary technician who has been in the field for 16 years, PLEASE STOP. Please start referring to your hours as veterinary experience hours, or veterinary assistant hours. You don't see medical school applicants advertising the hours they worked as a nurse, because they did not. Turning the term... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OMFS - Anyone worked for ClearChoice?
Hi all, Anyone have any experience or feedback on ClearChoice? I signed a contract with a private practice group with track to partnership in 2 years, very flexible in terms of scope, whatever you want to do. Recently heard about ClearChoice from a friend, they advertise working 4 mornings a week with twice as much pay compared to private practice (4.5 days). Please shed some lights on this if you can. If it's such an amazing deal, why aren't people taking on such jobs? Thank you. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Offering 1099 position vs W2
I am part of a private practice group and we discussed offering a 1099 position vs W2 to our CRNA so as to attract certain candidates who do not need benefits package. Our lawyers said this is not legal or discouraged us to do that because if a worker is working like an employee, must be treated as one (i.e. W2). But everywhere I look, hospitals, surgery centers, other private groups are offering 1099 positions. Many job advertisement will say W2 and/or 1099 positions available. Do your...
