Learning More About NIH Research Directions and How You Can Provide Input: Highlighting Autoimmune Disease Research
Regular readers of this blog know that we often seek feedback on various grant policies and initiatives broadly effecting the extramural research community. As just a few examples from last year, we sought input on research misconduct regulations, care and use of laboratory cephalopods, foreign subaward agreements, postdoctoral training, and review of fellowship applications. NIH advertises available grant support through funding opportunities that provide information on the award, who is eligible to apply, the evaluation criteria for selection of an awardee, required components of an application, and how to submit an application. In an effort to standardize terminology across the government, NIH is joining other federal agencies in using the term Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) rather than Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs). You will see both terms in use while we work to update ...

Allow Extra Time for SAM Registrations and Renewals
Active SAM registration is required in order for an organization to apply for grant funding or to receive an NIH award. Organizations that do business with NIH should allow extra time for System for Award Management (SAM) registration and yearly renewals. On April 7, 2022 SAM.gov issued a system alert stating “Due to high demand, entity legal business name and address validation tickets are taking longer than expected to process. We are working on tickets in the order received.”  Note that SAM advertises ten business day registration turnaround from submission, so you’ll want to add extra time from there. Federal ac...
