Flexibility and Find-Grained Ambient Clinical Voice Customization at MarianaAI
Kaustubh Sharma, Co-Founder and CEO at ambient voice provider MarianaAI, promises a “three-click process” to generate documentation from a patient visit. He describes their product as an “end-to-end approach” that starts even before the patient enters the room, pulling together a summary of the patients’ conditions in 30 to 60 seconds to help the physician guide the visit. Besides generating a note for the visit, the tool can also help the physician respond to patient messages, which is a big drain on clinicians’ time. Through discussion with hundreds of doctors and administrators, the f...

Extracting Value From Existing Systems with Connexall
Connexall addresses traditional hospital concerns such as fall prevention, other patient safety, and reducing alerts. According to Sandy Saggar, Interim Chief Executive Officer, they achieve this through great flexibility. On the one hand, they connect to a wide range of medical devices through standard protocols and remain vendor-neutral, which is important for hospital systems that have to integrate many systems after a merger or acquisition. They also recognize that each hospital has its own processes and needs customization. Saggar is interested in working with emerging technologies (autonomous robots, generative AI, d...

Getting Ready for Generative AI in Academic Medical Centers
This video provides a wide-ranging discussion of data acquisition, analytics, and AI in health care involving Dr. Keith Morse, MD, Professor, Pediatrics, and Medical Director of Clinical Informatics at Stanford Children’s Health, and Dr. Armando Bedoya, MD, Chief Analytics and Medical Informatics Officer at Duke Health.  They had both just spoken at the SAS Innovate 2024 conference about the use of AI, data, and analytics in their organizations. Both are wary of introducing generative AI too soon, before clinicians and data scientists understand where it is actually useful and how to handle its risks. Morse says that St...

A Case Study in Ambient Clinical Voice at Children ’ s Hospital Los Angeles
Each day that passes, I’m seeing how ambient clinical voice has become the most impactful part of health IT since the $36 billion of stimulus money for EHR software.  What’s most exciting about this technology is that it’s mature enough to be used by doctors and provide a lot of value today and yet we’re still in the early days of what’s going to be possible with this technology.  I believe every CIO, CMIO, and CMO should be evaluating this technology and understanding how it can help their organization. As we continue to share more about ambient clinical voice, we’re excited to share ...

A Look at the Hospital Room of the Future at Tampa General Hospital
When healthcare staff approach a hospital room, it’s important to know basic things about the patient like their preferred language, whether they’re in isolation, or whether they’re not supposed to eat (an NPO order). Traditionally, these facts are handled through physical markers or even buried in the patient record. The “digital white board” and “digital door sign” technologies from eVideon display the necessary information automatically where it’s clearly visible and provide a look into what the hospital room of the future looks like powered by technology. Amy Bender, Info...

Dealing with the Elephant in the Waiting Room – Clipboards and Paper Forms
I recently had a visit to the doctor’s office for a routine procedure.  I kid you not that I was asked to complete essentially the same forms 3 different times.  Two times electronically and once on paper.  The staff assured me that the forms were asking different questions.  I frustratingly assured them that 95% of the questions were the same.  It was an awful experience for me as a patient and no doubt for them to have to review 3 different sets of forms.  While not every office is this disorganized, the patient experience when it comes to clipboards and patient forms has a lot to be desired at many healthcar...
