Absorbed dose in the operator ’s brain in interventional radiology practices: evaluation through KAP value conversion factors
Concern over the possible long term effects of protracted exposure to ionizing radiation of the operator head ’s during interventional procedures was recently raised, after some publications revealed an increased mortality rate in physicians performing interventional radiology and cardiology procedures [1–3]. Notwithstanding that epidemiological studies have yet to confirm this [4,5], a better knowledge of the exposure conditions of the operator brain during such medical procedures is fundamental to guarantee proper radiation protection strategies.
