Reduced anastomotic complications with intracorporeal esophagojejunostomy using endoscopic linear staplers (overlap method) in laparoscopic total gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma

ConclusionsIntracorporeal anastomosis using linear staplers reduced anastomotic bleeding and stenosis compared to extracorporeal anastomosis after LTG. Future research will be required to determine the ideal method for intracorporeal anastomosis in LTG.

CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this is the first documented case of gastropharyngeal anastomotic leak related to TKI use. A causal relationship is highly plausible given the previously stable anastomosis and the suspicious advent of complications within months of initiation of this new drug. While previously limited to cases of intraabdominal bowel dehiscence, this report now suggests that wound dehiscence must be considered a known side effect of TKIs throughout the gastrointestinal tract, including the gastropharynx. As such, the risk of anastomotic dehiscence should be discussed with the patient prior to starting a TKI....

Conclusions: Ligation combined with cyanoacrylate could be preferred for HCC patients presented with both esophageal and gastric varices. BCLC C/D stage predicted shorter survival times and bleeding relapse, while male gender was an independent predictor of poor survival.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of self-expandable metal stent placement on outcomes of patients with duodenal obstruction secondary to pancreatic carcinoma.MethodsTwenty-nine consecutive inoperable patients with pancreatic cancer and gastric outlet obstruction who received metallic stent placement in our hospital between September 2009 and October 2017 were enrolled for analysis.ResultsFifteen male patients and 14 female patients receiving stent placement with a median age of 68 years (range, 50–85 years) were included. The technical and clinical success rates of the procedure were 100% and 89.7%, respect...

In this study, we reviewed major human studies on the health risks of radiation exposure and showed that sex-related factors may potentially influence the long-term response to radiation exposure. Available data suggest that long-term radiosensitivity in women is higher than that in men who receive a comparable dose of radiation. The report on the biological effects of ionizing radiation (BEIR VII) published in 2006 by the National Academy of Sciences, United States emphasized that women may be at significantly greater risk of suffering and dying from radiation-induced cancer than men exposed to the same dose of radiation....

Conclusions: Magnesium sulfate is an important adjuvant drug in the practice of anesthesia, with several clinical effects and a low incidence of adverse events when used at recommended doses. Introduction Magnesium is the fourth most common ion in the body, and it participates in several cellular processes, including protein synthesis, neuromuscular function and stability of nucleic acid, as well as regulating other electrolytes such as calcium and sodium. Magnesium acts as a cofactor in protein synthesis, neuromuscular function and stability and the function of nucleic acids. It is a component of adenosine 5-triph...

A 75-year-old Ethiopian-born woman (emigrated aged 48 years) was admitted with acute recurrent vomiting and mild abdominal pain. She had long-standing orally treated diabetes, hypertension and glaucoma. Examination, ECG, chest and abdominal X-rays were unremarkable save for tachycardia 130/min. Hb was 10.2 g/dl, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) 18 mg/dl, creatinine 1.6 mg/dl (previously 1.0), C-reactive protein (CRP) 30.4 mg/dl, normal amylase and liver enzymes. Her ‘gastroenteritis’ improved with fluids and she was quickly discharged, only to be readmitted within 6 days with anorexia and diffuse abdominal pain. Exami...

ConclusionsCompounds 1–10, 12 and 14–15 were isolated for the first time from the P. heterophylla. This result enriches the previous studies on the chemical constituents of P. heterophylla. Compounds 1 and 15 were reported for the first time have cytotoxic activities against tumor cells. Compounds 1, 5, 6, 7, 12, 15 showed cytotoxic activities against tumor cells. This result reveals that the active ingredient of P. heterophylla are composed of phenylpropanoids, iridoid and coumarin. This study provides some theoretical basis for the anti-tumor research of P. heterophylla.Graphical abstract

Abstract BACKGROUND: Gastric 'indefinite for neoplasm/dysplasia' (IFND) is a borderline lesion that is difficult to diagnose as either regenerative or neoplastic. There is a need for guidance in the identification of a subset of patients, who have an IFND lesion with a higher risk of malignant potential, to enable risk stratification and optimal management. AIM: To determine the clinical and pathologic factors for the accurate diagnosis of gastric IFND lesions. METHODS: In total, 461 gastric lesions diagnosed via biopsy as IFND lesions were retrospectively evaluated. Endoscopic resection (n = 134), surge...
