MS Symptom Thesaurus: Depression

Several months back, and at the request of one of our long-time followers, we began a monthly feature called the MS Symptom Thesaurus.  In this blog, I introduce a symptom of the disease multiple sclerosis and we all chime in to give our descriptors of the symptom. This exercise has been helpful to many newly diagnosed people finding their way through the MS maze, to healthcare professionals who are trying to figure out what we’re on about and to many of us who are searching for the words to explain our symptoms to family and friends. Today we’ll open up our comments to words that try to describe, explain and define MS-related Depression.  Depression can range from mild bouts to unexplainable sadness and lack of interest to, left unchecked, darkness that can end lives. I know depression as it relates to the brain chemistry imbalance cause by multiple sclerosis.  Like MS, everyone’s dealings with depression are unique, but some of the ways we elucidate are common threads which run though the tapestry of depression.  Not all of these words couple with every minute of a life with MS; not even every day when depression is upon us.  They do, however, represent things I’ve experienced at different points in this battle.
