Clinical and Microbiological Evaluation of Brazilian Red Propolis Containing-Dentifrice in Orthodontic Patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial. Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2020;2020:8532701 Authors: Furtado Júnior JHC, Valadas LAR, Fonseca SGDC, Lobo PLD, Calixto LHM, Lima AGF, de Aguiar MHR, Arruda IS, Lotif MAL, Rodrigues Neto EM, Fonteles MMF Abstract Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of dentifrice containing brazilian red propolis (BRP) in adolescents under orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods. This is a randomized, double-blind, clinical trial. A total of 92 participants free from caries were randomized into 2 groups; the first received fluoride dentifrice, and the second received fluoride dentifrice incorporated with BRP. The gingival bleeding index (GBI) was recorded, and saliva was collected on the baseline (D0) and after 28 days (D28) for microbiological analysis. Data from GBI and Colony Forming Units (CFU) (log10) were expressed as mean and standard deviation. Results: The two groups reduced GBI significantly, with no difference in the intergroup analysis. In the intragroup analysis, it was observed that G2 (p

This study aimed to determine whether the implementation of a CAM education influenced decision-making with regard to CAM usage amongst cancer patients. Twe nty people with cancer were recruited for participation in this study. The aims of this study were achieved by surveying patients via questionnaire, both prior to and following receiving an evidence-based CAM education, in either or both written or audiovisual format. Conclusions: Pterygopalatine fossa puncture using one acupuncture needle resulted in a shorter time to onset of effect, a longer duration of effectiveness, and less clinical waiting time when compared with VA. Though the significant differences for TNSS and TNNSS were shown within intervention and VA groups, there were no differences between the two groups. Although the rate of subcutaneous bleeding was low, these adverse events may influence patient compliance. This trial is registered with ISRCTN21980724. PMID: 32148537 [PubMed]

Endosc Int Open 2020; 08: E81-E86 DOI: 10.1055/a-1027-6921 Background and study aims Intestinal stricture associated with Crohn’s disease (CD) is usually treated by endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD) or stricture plasty. Although EBD is effective and safe for such strictures, refractory stricture after EBD poses a problem. Hence, other novel approaches for these refractory strictures are required. On the other hand, the efficacy of radial incision and cutting (RIC) method for esophageal stricture after esophagogastric surgery is reported. In this pilot study, we adopted the RIC technique for five CD patients w...

Conclusion: It was revealed that there are many flowers with valuable therapeutic effects. Traditional medicine systems prevailing in Sri Lanka have made use of these flowers with therapeutic effects to cure so many diseases. The review of medicinally important herbal flowers provides knowledge and pharmacological leads which will help for the wellbeing of the human beings. Although there are phytochemical studies done to identify the chemical compounds on some flowers, chemical composition of many flowers remains unrevealed. So further studies need to be done to identify the chemical composition of these flowers. PMID: 31263504 [PubMed]
