Temozolomide Is a Potential Therapeutic Tool for Patients With Metastatic Pheochromocytoma/Paraganglioma —Case Report and Review of the Literature

Conclusions: TMZ is effective and safe in MPP patients, and, it may work better on patients with SDHB-related MPP. Measurement of MGMT expression might help assess the tumor sensitivity to TMZ but this needs further systematic investigation.

Authors: Liu Y, Zeng Z, Yu X, Li T, Yao Y, Chen R, Zheng J Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of lipoprotein(a) level on long-range prognosis after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) in patients with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goal attainment. In this retrospective study, 350 patients in Coronary artery disease (CAD) with LDL-C less than 1.8 mmol/L were enrolled in the Guangdong Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases from January 2011 to December 2013. Follow-up was 1 year after PCI. According to the median value of the study population based on Lp(a), the patients ...

Authors: Chen SM, Lin KT, Dai YH, Chiang KT, Lee SY Abstract For nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), radiotherapy is the primary treatment. However, complications occur after radiation to the nasopharynx, which could potentially affect the flying safety. Four fighter pilots with NPC were reported. With early to locally advanced NPC, they received radiotherapy with or without concurrent chemotherapy. The prescribed radiation dose was 70 Gy to the primary tumor over the nasopharynx. Before treatment, all patients presented with various degrees of hearing loss on pure tone audiometry (main frequencies of 20-45 dB at 3-4.5...

This study investigates the effects of oral intake of glucose with and without NaCl on angiotensin II (AngII) and aldosterone in obese and nonobese patients with essential hypertension. Methods: Twenty newly diagnosed untreated essential hypertensive patients and 15 normotensive control subjects matched for age, gender, and BMI were studied. Participants fasted overnight (8-10 hrs), and then each subject took 75 gm glucose alone and with 3 gm NaCl, each dissolved in 250 ml. Subjects were monitored for 2 hours. Half hourly BP, plasma glucose (PG), serum Na+, K+, insulin, AngII, and aldosteron...

This study aims to study the efficiency of the Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR) for determining coronary artery disease. It compares the frequency of abnormal WHtR, as a proxy for abdominal obesity, to that of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). It also relates the findings to other cardiometabolic risk factors in University Hospital patients. A cross-sectional study design was used, where a sample of 200 patients (142 males and 58 females) who attended the adult cardiac clinic were purposively included. BMI, WC, and WHtR were measured, where frequencies of WHtR were compared to those of BMI and WC. The finding...
