In Regard to Miyake et al.

Ionizing radiation (IR)-induced skin toxicity prediction has emerged as a challenge for radiation oncologist treating patients who need loco-regional radiotherapy for non-metastatic cancer. The skin late sequela mechanisms after IR are not fully known. The recent article by Miyake et  al provided original data showing that cell fate of skin keratinocytes derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells after IR-induced DNA damage response (DDR) can promote senescence.1 Indeed, the senescent cell fate plays important roles in IR-induced healthy tissue damage of various cellular types and organs.
